It's not that they have better gearing, it's because our peak HP is at 6k RPM (stock), and most of us don't shift until near or at red line. If we shift just after peak in 3rd (6100-ish), our torque will kill them in 4th gear too.

Where I live there is a heavily population of Latino's. For what ever reason they all drive rice burners. They pull along side of me at a red light so I roll my window down and do the "point and laugh" then say SEE YA. Having a sleeper Max is sometimes too sweet...

 

Yea man just did the same thing a hr ago, I pulled out of a gas station and saw a rice burner. Funny thing was he actually tried.

This is that perceived image people see when they buy certain cars, just cause a car cost more or is a luxury brand does not mean it's better or faster.

What would be great was if that Maxima owners was on 1 of these boards, maybe he frequents nycmaximas

 

Its the displacement that beats the TL in the end. It does not get much better when it comes to V6 sedans then the Max

 

never actually raced a TL (2004+) but I see them on the highway and with my daily commute they don't look like they have a problem doing 80-90 all day with sudden spurts to pass others but then again I've heard they have better top end, I've driven the TL an the overall car is equal or better then the 6th Gen Max, small detail you would expect in a Luxury make, now a TL-S I would trade my car in a heartbeat

just realized the the 6th Gen Maxima and the 3rd Gen TL both got redesigned for 2004, this makes the next Gen model for both these cars even more interesting, seeing how these are 2 cars I really wanna see great improvements with

 

Stock rev limiter is ~6600RPM.

TL's are hella-nice cars though i gotta admit. Just not as angry as a Max.

check out one of the guys saying about shifting to 2nd so that vtech could kick in.. if u have SS and ur going 50.. does it even let u go into second.. lol.. losers

 

I raced TL-S, on friday night from a dig. It was an auto I think.

First and second we were pretty much even, considering my wheelspin(i don't have tcs) and his tcs working, when I shifted to 3rd I started to pull, by the end of 3rd I had at least a CL on him. I shifted into 4th and didn't push much anymore (~80mph in 30mph zone)

If Acura was a stick shift - I think it's a driver's race.

 

im a regular on nycmaximas and i have yet to hear this story. lol it made my night tho.
and my cousin has the 06 TL
its not all that quick. till the vtec kicks in other than that the interior of the TL is nicer than the 6th. but i do love my 6th!

 

Man, I really wanna make an account and look for someone on there, and give him a peice of my mind aha..I was going to NJ today, and I saw this black TL, he has some silver rims or whatever..So he guns it a bit, and so do I, as I'm gunning it..He just decides to cut me the hell off..Now I know whats "friendly fun" and whats "fukin stupid, you deserve to die"..He basically missed the left front of my car by like 2 ft..**** head man..Swear.

If someone from the forum sees this..He was from New York..Heading towards Nj, Edison on rt 1..Around 6-7...Learn how to drive man aha.
