Well fellas-

Its looks as though the VW 1.8T guys are not very respectful of the Max! Some were at Maxus and said all the Max's were slow. They posted it on VWVortex. The link is below.

Go give em hell!

Most of the Max were autos. I have yet to see a stock 1.8T do 14's. However I've see a few VR6 break high 14's.

It's not like they're saying anything that's outrageous... they're pretty much correct in everything. Automatic Maximas are that slow.

I have an automagic, and I don't have any illusions about it. I have a high-15s car... it's fast for what it is, but no Skyline in Kia's clothing. Stick Maxes have a lot more of that sleeper appeal.

Don't those 1.8T cars have a weight advantage over us? I'm sure they're lighter. An auto Maxima is slow, I can know that first hand owning an auto Maxima myself. With the same amount of mods, a 5spd Maxima should still win. Plus, aren't those 1.8T cars are usually underrated/detuned? I know a guy that goes to my school that has an Audi A4 1.8TQM with just a chip upgrade. He ran low 14s the last time out at the track. That's pretty good, with just a chip upgrade. I actually almost bought an Audi A4 1.8T myself. Then, the stock market went BOOM! Oh well, after I slap on my supercharger, vb, and maybe a torque converter, I can play with them if they want. Sad though, it takes a supercharger/NOS to get the automagic into 14s.

A friend has an A4 with a 1.8T that's chipped. I'm sorry, but I'll take my "slow" Max before I drive one of those chunks. It takes FOREVER to feel like your going anywhere. Ther is _no_ off the line power. Yeah, once your goin 35 the turbo makes a hell of a difference. In fact it seems reasonable. But to most people, its the 0-35 thats the most fun...

It all depends on your perspective, not all automagics are slow

I cannot agree with you more.

Since when are ALL autos slow?

I have seen a chipped GTI 1.8T w/ no othe rmods except that run a 14.2. It makes me think twice at times.

Just remember, my max is sleeping...thats what he though!

Let them think what they want. I have nothing to prove to them.

As the former owner of a 98 1.8T Passat 5spd....I can say hands down that the 2K1 SE will eat it's lunch.....stock vs. stock. A chipped 1.8T might get them to 190hp or so, but it's slow off the start, and unless they can keep the boost pressure up between shifts, they will have some lag in each gear....I'll take my chances anyday against the 1.8T. And the Max looks a hell of alot better, and isn't in the shop every other month for repairs.

Max rocks!

They at least seem pretty cool

They don't seem like a$$es, like in other car Forums.
Hey if they can pull on a Max that's cool. But I'd like to run one to see for myself. I'm not stock anymore but I'd like to see how quick they really are. I've never been beat by one yet but it doesn't mean it won't happen. Those chips do make a big diff. on German cars but I aint Skurd. I can take um in NA mode.
