My front tires are a bit worn and close to the wear bars so Im thinking about replacing all 4 tires. Kumho makes a great set of 235/45/WR17's that are $100each at the TireRack.(Ive used them before and they are excellent tires and amazing "bang for the buck".)

Anyone else change tire sizes? If so, whatdid you change to? (Going from a 225/50/17 to a 235/45/17 is about 0.5 an inch in total diameter.)

I stuck with same tire size and had Michellin Pilot HX MXM4 put on (had Nissan replace stock potenzas). I've been very happy with the tire. srm

I got those exact same Kuhmo tires in a 234/45/17. The tires are mad good. They are great in Wet traction because of the wide channel in the middle and on top of that, they have great dry transaction.

Plus they have been rated excellent by all the magazines.

I replaced wheels and tires. Dunlop Sport SP5000 (235/45). Very good traction (both wet and dry) and quiet too!

I replaced my rims and tires at 23000 miles with 18" Enkei RS6s and Nitto NT555. I was going to get the Kumhos, but they were out of stock, so they gave me the Nittos for cheap. Discount Tire. Ride quality didn't change much.

that should fit. Go ahead and order the tires.

The tires are very good. I have a set and my brother has a set. They're one of the best things to come out of Korea.

I got 235/50/17 Firestone Firehawk Tires from the rack for $77/tire! They have a 500 treadwear rating and are oem tires on the Lincoln LS. The ride and performance is just what I need and the treadwear is beyond my expectations.
My wheel wells are filled in just the right amount. I love these tires! But they could have been made by a better company.

See pics here that compare my 235/45's with the 50's:

For the sake of newbies or lurkers who might read this thread . . .

The U.S. Tire and Rim Association specifically states that the minimum acceptable rim width for 235/45R17 and 245/45R17 tires is 7.5". The stock 5th Gen SE rims are only 7.0" wide. As a result, NO TIRE MANUFACTURER WILL WARRANT TIRES IN THESE SIZES AGAINST FAILURE IF THEY ARE MOUNTED ON THE STOCK SE RIMS.

So you gotta ask yourself a question. "Do I feel lucky today?" Well . . . do you?

WOW....there is a pretty big difference in wheel well gap! I think on a stock car(no lowering springs) the 50's look better as the 45's leave a good sized gap in the wheel well...as if stock wasnt enough!

Nope. Just hope people who mount 235/45R17 or 245/45R17 tires on the stock SE rims don't end up doing that to themselves.

Just remember though, MOST tire places, NTB, discount tire never pay attention to those warnings. They will warranty your tire if you have issues. Been there done that.

1) Never let facts get in the way of a good story.
2) You're gonna make Russ mad.
3) Then it's gonna make me mad.
4) Then Kev's gonna get mad at both of us.
5) It will be all my fault.

Personally, I wouldn't really have an issue going with 235s because of the pathetic selection of tires in the 225/50 size, but going any wider than that is pretty much saying to hell with this life.

In an accident, a tire manufacturer will not be libel since you're running 235s, nor will Nissan. Your only recourse will be through your tire shop, so make sure it's a BIG chain place that has a corporate backing (i.e. LOTS of cash/insurance). Also, they may make you sign a waiver that you're going with wider than recommended tires on those rims and they won't be responsible, BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Basically, you will have little or no recourse when/if you have a blowout or accident as a result of the larger tires.

Gr8bone: Any wet weather comments on the Firehawks?

I saw where TireRack didn't give them any better wet rating than the pathetic RE92's. Do you have any real world feedback?

Re: Gr8bone: Any wet weather comments on the Firehawks?

I haven't had any problems in the wet but there is a lot of tread on the tires still. But also it hasn't rained much this summer in the North East. I'm very satisfied with these tires so far. I'll probably go a month into winter with these on too til I switch to the winter tires and 15" rims
