I want to clean my throttle body but it looks kinda hard. I have a Dragon INtake from weapon-r not the stock airbox. Anyway, is it really that hard to clean the TB? Do I have to have the cleaner or can I just clean it with a toothbrush or something like that. Can I clean it well enough without taking it all the way out or should I just take it out. Is there any tricks to taking the hoses off or anything like that? Just looking for some tips and things. I have the new gasket so I dont need to worry about that. I just want to know if I have to use some TB or any other cleaner or can I just use a toothbrush or something. THanks

Hey man,
I did it just recently, so I have some fresh tips for you. First, I remember someone mentioning that Nissan sells a special TB cleaner that won't harm the special coat that's on the butterfly valve and surrounds. Be sure to get that, and not carburator cleaner.
Anyaway, the best way to clean the TB is to remove the whole thing. Yes, I know that it might be a little biatch to get out
but trust me, it's really the best way to clean (unless your Maxima is fairly new).
Here are the tips:
- remove all intake components until the TB
- be sure when you resecure the TB, torque the four bolts in a criss-cross pattern, at 8 ft/lbs, then repeat the process at 16 ft/lbs.
- To loosen hoses that are stuck on pretty tight (some residue might have caked onto the edge) use a screwdriver to loosen it up, and pry it off until you can remove it by hand.
- To loosen hoseclamps, use a mini vise to compress the two clip ends, and remove the hose. If it's stuck, use the above method to loosen the contact points.
- Be careful after removing the 3 hoses connected to the TB, there will be some coolant spilling out, so hold the hoses upwards and the spill will eventually stop. Place a pan adjacent to the back of the front left wheel.
If your TB isn't too dirty, it isn't really worth removing completely. Only remove completely if the surface is caked with a good layer of carbon deposits (smells like gasonline too.)
Hope that helps.

I cleaned mine just fine with out removing it, I don't see what all the fuss is about. If you want to remove it for some reason just disconect the flexible ruber peace that goes to the TOB and connects to your MAFS. Theres no need to remove your MAFS,Air box or resonator or anything like that. I took me about 10 minutes clean mine at a friends house.
You know that your TOB is real dirty when your car idles like crap, cleaning it made my 95 max feel new again and throttle response is definatly improved. I c an't wait to dyno again and see the real #'s.
