I did this a long time ago. Only thing you might want to do is to use locktite on the bolts since they tend to come loose. And make sure you cut the O/D wires long enough so that it's not hard to splice.

I recommend
Cut down on the actuall shifter rod. I cut the inner rod and outer rod by about 3/4 of an inch, and the shifter sits lower to the gate, and doesn't look as tall. I thought it looked a little goofy with how tall it was. If you got a dremel it is easy to cut the bar. Just don't cut it too short.
It looks much sweeter with the lower stance, and don't forget to file very lightly the plastic boot to which the wire covering goes into, it makes it shift a little smoother where it used to kind of stick to the plastic gate.
Also if you have an angle head drill bit, I recommend that you drill a new hole on the metal rod to accomadate the large screws that come with the unit. They hold much better than the three little Allen head bits.
