While I was at the Nissan dealership the other day wanting to test drive the new 6spd max I was talking to one of the sales reps-this is how the conversation went:

Me: "Do you have any of the new 2002 6-speeds here to test drive"
Sales: "No, we should get them in mid-october but what a great car that will be"
Me: "Yeah I have been reading up on it here and there and I have a 98 and I want to get the new max(just bs-ing, i dont want a new one)"
Sales: "Yeah that new maxima with 300+ horsepower is sure a quick car"
Me: "300 HORSEPOWER???"
Sales: "Yep, they come stock with over 300 horsepower"
Me: "I had never heard that the new max's would have so much horsepower (here's where i catch him), is that to the wheels?"
Sales: "Yep that's to all 4 wheels"
Me: "Awesome, I'll come back in mid-october"

MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! That could be one of the funniest things I have ever been apart of, a friend of mine was with me and he was about to die.. knowing nothing of maxima's but has the general knowledge that it's not a 300HP car or anything else.. so funny, figured I would share.

you "think" they don't know.. they do..

any idiot who isn't living under a rock would know the specs on the maxima.. the commercials are out.. and they all get briefed in sales meetings..

he is just mouthing off to you to get you interested

You should have bet him money on it... If it wasn't 300hp, they give you a free car.

Sometimes sales people pull that when they feel confident that you're nothing but a window-shopper© When I look at Nissans they do everything they can to get me to take the car for a test drive--not so when I looked at Mercedes last year© Yet when I looked at the 330Ci same thing, they wanted me to drive it© If the salesperson told me what he told you I would have corrected him, either to get him to stop the shenanigans, or to help him get his facts straight©

I think you should off corrected him. Cause now he probably thinks you are stupid. You should go back and play same kind of joke on him when he gets the 6spd. Thats if he will still say it got 300 to all four wheels. Later.

maybe he forgot to add in the spare, that should average out the hp, maybe the spare gives you 50+ hp, 300hp at all 5 wheels.

Sad very Sad

I hate to hear stories like this. I have spent the last three months studying, learning my product knowledge so i can get my Nissan certification with honors ( 95-100% on all tests) and this di*k messes up my hard work by spouting some sh*t about a car he has no right seling anyway.

On behalf of the REAL nissan saleman in the country..SORRY...

If you want the correct information on this or any other nissan product please contact me anytime...

you didn't know?

the 7 speed is coming out in 2003 with 350hp with TT, with VTEC and has ATTS on the SE-type R version, only 5 of them are going to be made so act quick said the salesman. he recommended the AWD for better launching tho.

But, the lower power, 255-285Hp is on the road now

If you keep your eyes open you might see something that isn't on the showroom floors yet. Nissan Corporate here in Reston Virginia has been giving these cars to employees to drive - where ever they want. A co-workers daughter-in-law just got a job, and a car. I am trying to meet up with her to take a look.
