Don't get Cordless Escort Solo because this radar starts to kick in by the time Police flash their light.. happened to me once and I sold it immedaitely at E-bay... I've heard good stories about corded version of Escort..

I got the one from Radio Shack. It talks to you when you turn on your car and when it detects radar. It has seriously saved my a** 3 times.

Get the Valentine One

I've had a Valentine One since 1994 and it has saved me many times over. It really helps with the rear detection because I've had Houston Z28 cop cars come up on me when I was going like 80mph on the freeway. With most detectors, you wouldn't know to look to the rear. Check out http://www.valentine1.com. Yeah, it is $399 but is worth it. It has paid for itself many times over.

Got mine here:
http://www.soundgood.com/store/page23.html

$260 shipped. Arrived promptly. I then ordered a power cable directly from Escort to hardwire into my car.

I think the 8500 is awesome.

V1 & passport 8500

I have had a V1 for about 2 years and sold it to buy a Passport 8500. Then I just recently bought another brand new V1. I will get the new version of the V1 tomorrow. I love my Passport 8500---great range--etc. But I hate the fact it doesn't have the arrows the V1 has.

A tactful reminder... This is the 4Gen Maxima forum and your post has nothing to do with the care and feeding of 4Gen Maximas.

Re: oh yea

Hi ya Shumax,
Was just wondering, did V1 come out with a new version? I think the directional arrows is pretty awesome but not worth it if the V1 doesn't handle the false signals well. With the 8500, I do end up looking all around when it starts beeping...

Also, www.radartest.com Pretty much the V1 and 8500 are equal in performance but the V1 has those awesome arrows. But are they worth another $150??

I have a hardwired Passport 8500 with remote display and it's great. I drive from Austin to Dallas and back every 2 weeks, and it has saved me a few times. The Passport has every feature the V1 has but it does lack the arrows. For me the extra $100 wasn't worth the arrows. From what I've heard the Passport falses less which was an important part of my purchase. If you get a hardwire kit you can place the remote sensor in the blank space to the right of the dimmer switch for the gauges. When used with the radar on the passenger visor the setup is totally stealth I'll post pics sometime.

:)

We could go back and forth with this for days

The V1 came out with a new edition--called version 1.8. It is about 1/4 of an inch less tall and 1/4" shorter too. The casing is also more of a grey color now, too. This is said to eliminate the false signals associated with KA. It also responds to the european band KU now as well. I get it today--I will report on it tonight.

Re: :)

I have the older V1 version 1.7 I just found out I can upgrade my V1 here;

http://store.valentine1.com/upgrades/

I wonder if it's worth the $189

My experience has been that the KA was kindof weak, and the Laser is almost useless, but that's because of Laser, not the V1.

Hmmm, decisions, decisions.
