! Looking for NEW Family Car, $26,000 !

Hey guys ... the ALTIMA really disappointed my Family when we saw it in Person.

My family took our Deposit Back and now we're back to square 1.

What would YOU buy for $35,000 Canadian, which is about $25,000 American equivilent (our cars here are slightly cheaper)

We Need something Safe and comfortable, and I want something DECENT looking so no AZTEC or PT Cruiser.

And I would REALLY prefer Japanese or German.
4WD would be a PLUS.

I'm thinking of ANOTHER Maxima for my Parents.

Any Suggestions??????

Have you test driven a new 2002 Camry? It may look cheap, but Toyotas are very very solidly built. Yes, the Camry may not be as sporty or as fast as a Maxima, but it makes up for that with its smooth ride, quiet operation, and overall refinement.

You can get the 2k2 Maxima for that money, with tax and all fees included.

Probably can get a 2001 TL, not Type S though, for around 30 including tax.

You can also get the 2001 A4 1.8T, I hear they have very good deals now since new one is almost out. My friend just leased a A4 2.8 Quatro for $460/month which includes Tax and only 500 down.

BMW 3 series, 325i is nice, but will be closer to $30 grand with tax and some options...

Wait, aren't your taxes different?? How much are they? I would assume less then NYC, so subtract from all the prices I mentioned...

How about Acura CL? I heard that you can get a real good price on them now. Many dealers have too many CL's in stock because they were not selling well as Acura anticipated so they are selling them at invoice or below invoice. The invoice on CL's are around 25K

I second the Passat. And if you want 4WD, you can opt for 4Motion.

I think the Passat is a wonderful car, but it is pretty expensive for what you get, and it doesn't have the bulletproof reliability of a Maxima, Accord, or Camry. Parts (maintenance) are more expensive for it too.

I'll have to agree, you can't go wrong with the turbo-4 or the V6 plenty of aftermarket stuff.

Tl

You can get a TL-S for about 31k. I have a dealer in Columbus Ohio trying to sell me one right now. I told him no unless he gets the 6spds. You can also get a CL-S for a bit less. Remember the TL-s has 4 doors and the CL-S has 2 doors. Either choice is going to please you.

My dad just got a new company car and its a 2k2Black TL with the 225 3.2 litre Vtec engine. What a trush that thing is. We lined them up and he beat me up to 40 pretty good--at least 1 car length. He didn't want to beat on it as it only has 200 miles on it.

Get an Acura--they are bullet proof.

Ah he said $26,000 not $31,000. Big difference. And Passats w/ 4-motion are all going to be pretty loaded so I doubt you get them new for under $29,000-$30,000. Definately over $26,000.

Personally, if you want new, gxe/se Maxima or V6 Accord w/ leather can be had for that much. New TLs are more than $26,000 for sure.

If you opt for a 1-2 year old car, the TL, new bodied I30 are in your range.

If your willing to go older than 3 years, maybe high miled BMW 528i, A6 or V6 E320 Mercedes.

did you say the car was for...

your parents? if so, get the 2k2 camry. i'm guessing they dont care to much for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. the SE camry looks pretty nice, the gauges and steering wheel, perforated leather, etc. the car is extremely smooth riding, its a nice car.
if the car isn't for your parents, disregard this post

2002 TL goes for $36000 here in Canada, I'm sure he can get $1000 off.

Some one at acura-cl.com bought his CL-S for $25,500. Lots of dealers are selling CL-S for below invoice. They are already getting 2002's in so they really need to get rid of 2001's. On the other hand, good luck on TL-S. TL-S are very much on demand. Especially with Navi. I would seriouly consider CL-S. Great car, Great price, Very Fast.

around here in so cali a acura CL is going for about $26K , so you could go check those out, but not the CL-S, if you can find one of those for $26K, then why would you buy a maxima for the same price. check out alot of dealers, many dealers are giving many rebates and incentives. good luck.
