I remember hearing good things about redline manual transmission oil (how it eliminates notchy shifting, even when cold).
I finally went to check it out at a local performance shop and they wanted $21 Canadian for a quart and the Maxima needs 4-5 quarts! Is it really worth it? Any comments would be appreciated.

Umm, Courtesy Nissan in Dallas sells it for $6-$7 a quart. Its worth it, but not for $21 a quart! Try to find it somewhere else cheaper.

 

Um, it's $21/quart Canadian, which translates to around $14/qt US. Man, that's like US$6 markup over the normal price! Still way too expensive.

Even if you order direct from Redline, they will charge you less!

 

I thought the tranny needed 11 quarts if you were going to replace everything--drain and flush instead of just a flat out drain and refill--which doesn't get everything out.

if it is 7 dollars a quart--multiply that by 11 and that is about 77 for the entire tranny job.

I think you may be confusing the issue here. You have an auto, he has a stick. The sticks take Red line MT-90 and the autos use Red line MTL. The capacities are quite a bit different, too.

Speaking from Experience, I have MT-90 in my 5 speed and the difference was like night and day! The 1st day I drove it I felt like something in my tranny was really loose. The shifting was wickeldy easy! Now I'm use to it.

Actually, the automatics use Redline D4 ATF. Normal Redline ATF (which is Dextron 2E) works, but why not just get the D4 which is better.

 

So how many quarts of the Mt 90 are needed for a complete flush and fill for a 97 5 speed?

 

Anyone know how often to change it. I got Redline mt-90 in mine.

Yeah, AUTOMATIC Maximas use Redline D4 ATF. 5-spd Maximas use Redline MTL. Check http://www.redlineoil.com for more info.
