Anyone have any experiences with Maaco paint jobs?
I would like to get a new paint job, but can't really afford a real expensive one. I went to Maaco this morning and they said $599 for same color paint with Uerethane mixed paintand Gloss coat. I was wondering if any of you have had your car painted there, and how it was.
Hey bro,
I got that same paint job. They're not gonna paint your engine bay or remove headlights, corner lights, and stuff like that. I had a lot of over spray in my car. I could see a tint of blue over my front seats and around my gear shifter. When I complained, they made a fuss about it and denied that it wasn't possible for them to spray in the car. He even took me into the shop and showed me a car and said, "Do you see any paint on this interior?"
Since they didn't remove the lights, i think the primer got on it, and they didn't wipe it off which made the lenses cloudy. I took my car back and got my blinkers wiped off and my headlights polished because it looked just terrible and I couldn't soap and water it off either.
The front bumper chipped way too easily. Yea you're gonna get rock chips, but the way my bumper looked after 2 weeks was ridiculous.
I also complained about some dust particles which stuck to the paint and the guy again said "there's no such thing as a dust free room. They do claim to paint your car in a dust free environment though.
I do see a little bubble forming on the hood which I am going to take in when I get the chance.
I have a 4 year warranty on the paint job. Umm, overall, from a scale from 1-10 I would rate the job a 6.
I've had the paint job for about 5 months now and for the most part, it still looks good. Just make sure they get door jams, and fuel door and remove all the prep tape when they're finished. Check your car out before you pay.
Or go somewhere else and pay more. Where are you located?

On Maaco jobs like that, you can make the best of it if your willing to do a little work. Remove things like the lights, moldings, etc. otherwise they'll just mask them off crappily and it wont look good at all. You can also do the sanding and prep work yourself, since Maaco just scuffs it and sprays a "sealer" on there. Little things you can do yourself make it a much better job. Here's my dads Le Mans that he had painted at Maaco. We pretty much stripped it before taking it in, and did a ton of prepwork ourselves. It's been about 5 years, and the paint still looks pretty good. He's soon to get a real paint job though. Notice Maaco told you they'd give you a "gloss coat"? Dont take it to mean a true clear coat, because Maaco doesnt do that. It's a mixture of gloss/color and doesnt come near a true clear coat.
paint is one thing that must be quality, i had a decent paint job from the place the dealer sent me to after a wreck, it chipped like crazy, did my front bumper conversion and got top quality and a fixing for problems and it has zero chips and i have driven it on rocky texas roads for 5 months so far
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Save your money and go somewhere else! Maaco did a terrible job painting my car. They use enamel paint. the last time car companies use enamel was 20 years ago. My paint is faded. The paint chips off very easy. My advise is go to a good body shop and get your car painted.
