UDP impressions

MAX2000JP and I spend our afternoon yesterday putting my UDP on. After the install and driving it a bit I have observed a few things.
First of all...LOW END TORQUE..the thing just pulls like mad from low rpms. Second, partial throttle accel requires much less throttle making the drivability of the car much better. Third, acceleration seems smoother than before, and the car seems to move down the road much more effortlessly. Finally, the car revs faster than it did before making downshifts a quicker task. I think it's definitely a worthwhile investment, and the install wasn't THAT bad Only broke my 1/2 to 3/8 inch socket adapter while breaking the crank pully bolt loose....woops

I did the same thing just removing my FSTB when changing my spark plugs.

Did you notice any difference in alternator performance? Do you lights dim easier? I have a stereo, and I'm afraid with the UDP it might not supply enough power.

I have a system in my car (2 amps 1 running all speakers and one on the sub) and it doesn't affect it at all. If you drive your car in a more spirited fasion than normal on a regualar basis..which I know I do then you are already putting more stress than normal on the alternator, the UDP will alleviate some of that stress by spinning the alternator slower at high engine speeds.

So basically you recommend it... seems like you are in the minority Bri... heh.

On another note, if Josh has his y-pipe still for sale, I may come get it out there to save on shipping, feel like helpin' a brotha put on his y-pipe?

UDP Question.. Have you had a chance to see if your A/C blows nice and cold at idle? Like on a 90 deg. day. Being your accessories spin slower, I'm thinking it may effect the A/C performance at idle. And I love my car I C E C O L D

Then I am also in the minority. Some of the UDP haters asked me if my impressions were because of a self-fulfilling prophecy. NO. I actually expected the UDP to do practically nothing, but, in fact, it really really helps.

Case in point: before I had it, one of the haters drove my car and said it was eh...not too slow, not too fast. Then recently he drove it and commented "your car PULLS." Sooooo...another CIP: I can now stay even with 5spds.

Anyway, there is NO difference in the accessories. I don't have a SYSTEM though. The A/C is just as icy cold all the time (brr!). I do notice I have to adjust the belts every so often now though...they seem to expland/contract with the weather more...prollie cuz they are smaller.

Several of us put in mods over the weekend and a 5th gen installed an UDP as well.

And the reactions are pretty much the same. The UDP is worth it.

Read the reactions from the 5th geners, here:

I'm about to order mine. Any suggestions or recommendations how to proceed after removing the plastic cover? I'm not so sure or confident about doing this mod myself. It seems like a hard task or removing the stock pulley from the crank. How tight are the belts suppose to be? Did you use some kind of tool to measure the tension? Thanks for any responses!

The cheapest I've seen on the net is courtesynissan.com. Tell them you're an Org member and they'll give you a discount. Even more if you've purchased from them in the past.

I was just about to say the same thing. Every one who nocks on the UDP does not have one...hmm, stange .

Lime, you should not have to be tightening your belts periodiacaly like that. Just because the belts are shorter does not meen they should behave any differently.

You could also try the group deal section. YoItsOk (Hogan) is having a group deal on them I believe. $190 + shipping iirc.

For third gens the price is good, but for other years you can find better prices elsewhere.

FYI: Courtesy doesn't give a discount on this, since it's an aftermarket part. I called before and they can only discount the Nissan OEM stuff, and a few others, so for the UDP the discount doesn't apply.

I like my UDP. I too didn't think there was going to be much difference, but I was wrong. After adding my UDP, my trap speeds went up over 1mph (consistent 95mphs, 14.8), but my 60' are still crap. One thing I noticed about the UDP is that when I hit each gear, there is less lack right after the shift. The only downside I see is that the rpms fall much faster when you are trying to rev-match going into a turn which makes for some jerkiness.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep searching for a better deal.

How was the install on an auto? Did it take a long time? Run into any problems?

I've seen only one dyno of an UDP, on budgetexhaust.com's website. Apparently it's peak gains are 6hp and 10lb-ft

Needless to say, mine will be on my car soon (soon as I have some #!2$%*& time to do it...school is sooo time consuming)

Brian how about a pizza for me, all i got was grilled cheese
The UDP wasnt that hard to install, we just took our time because we hadnt done it before and had to run to the parts store 2 times. Brian's POS socket adapter got sheared off.

For an auto I HIGHLY recommend having a shop do it, I hear it's much harder. Removing the pully and belts is not the tough part it's tightening the pully AFTER you put the UDP on which is a b*tch.

Yes I have the ability....but I'm really short on spending money..this is my last mod this year...probably won't do anything else major til spring. So if people want to start a fund....I'll get my car dynoed
