Service Engine Soon Light...anyone else?
Service Engine Soon Light...anyone else?
I have a 2000 Maxima SE, and this is the second time my that I've experienced this problem. Basically, I'm driving along, and the service engine soon light comes on, and then, depending on the speed that I'm at, I will either fall from above 2.5k rpms to 2.5k rpms, of if I'm below 2.5....I'll continue accelerating, and then when I get to 2.5k rpms, it just doesn't go anymore..isn't at 2500 rpms it just goes up 100 and then down 100, and just keep wavering. The same thing if I'm going faster, when it drops, this same thing happens. I can drop below 2500 rpms, and drive fine, but can't go above 2500, and when I get to 2500..it just does that same thing. I have to pull off the road, shut off the car, and then restart it, and it's fine, but the light is still on. The first time this happened to me, I brought it in, and they replaced the OGR valve....to the best of my memory that's what they replaced (something that recycles the un-combusted fuel back into the engine). Has anyone else had this problem?
So today I call some dealers in the ATL to fix this, and one said that I would be charged $94 for an engine diagnostics test? WTF!?! My car is still under warranty..furthermore, this is the same dealer I brought the car to last time that I had this same problem, and there was never anything about a $94 charge?? Come one now...I mean, fine, I don't want your engine diagnostic test, instead, you need to collect on the warranty of the part that they installed then!! I mean, does the part they replaced before, doesn't taht have some kind of warranty with it, or they warranty they work for a certain amount of time? I mean, come on, it was replaced like 2-3 months ago?
Anyways, is this happening to anyone else? And what could be doing this?
Thanks, and help is appreciated.

sounds like your car is going into 'safe mode'. OGR valve? Was it EGR valve? Anyhow, some have experienced this problem and it has turned out to be a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor). Anyhow, under warranty, you should not be charged for anything. Try another dealer. Any mods?

Oh I believe it...it's just plain wrong. Even though I work for Nissan...I don't work for a dealer, and the one I frequent charges nothing to check a code. In fact...you can just go in and a tech will take the 5 minutes time to simply reset the light and tell you the problem...no opt. needed.

I wish I had some dealers like that around here....
