painting over the chrome to either body-color or black. If so, did you prime it first, and did the paint adhere. I have an SE wanna-be. Will I be able to scrape off the paint to go back to chrome in case I ever have an SE don't-wanna-be?

I painted the chrome grill on my sons Honda

and there was no need to prime it. I removed the grill from the car and cleaned it well with rubbing alcohol and a scotch brite pad. Painted like you would spray anything else(light coats with about ten minutes of drying time between coats. Let it dry overnight and then popped it back in and voila. done. Its been seven months and it still looks good. By the way make sure to use an automotive specific paint as it gives better fill and adhesion.
