I have been searching the internet for the last few hours looking for planes on how to make my own ECU to laptop cable. And I have found a good set of planes for the circuit that is needed to be made (Link). But were is a good place to by the parts? Things like Breadboard, resistors and capacitors are easy to find. But does any one know were to get a ECU Consult/DDL connectors or the chips, ect.

I have a copy of Nissan DataScan, that seems the best and I think someone gave be a copy of PCMSCAN that is around some were.

 

I assume that is the ECU connector?

OBDII male connector. They also have OBDII Female, and OBDI Male/Female connectors. I just happened to have that one bookmarked, I used that connector for my swap.

 

This is a good idea, but using a microcontroller and programming it with hex machine code is challenging. i remember some of it from college, and i may have some notes and books still if i dig around, i can try to help you with the code if you decide to go along with it.

How do you convert the hex code back into the Nissan understandable Ecu codes ?

It would be easier to translate the code if there was a possibility to hook up the scanner to the laptop through an RS232 jack, no ?

 

Depends if it is Consult-I or Consult-II. I think Consult-I code has been broken, but AFAIK Consult-II code is way too difficult to decipher. I found a good link on the subject recently. Basically, auto manufacturers mix OBD codes with their own proprietary (like Consult) data. The OBD codes are open source, the manufacturer codes are tightly guarded.

So, depends if he wants a Consult-I or -II. I don't think the connector in my link works with Consult-I, didn't Nissan make their own data port for Consult-I?

 

I spent about 3 hours yesterday making up the parts list to make one and then someone was selling one used for 25BIN.

I looked every were on mouser and they don't have any obdI nissan connectors. But a makeshift one can be made from other 14 pin connectors.

Cant wait to get it, going to mount it to the fuse box and roll the usb cord under the steering wheel.

You can use Excel to convert binary and hex to dec; HEX2DEC, BIN2DEC etc. But these are engineering functions that a normal MS Office installation does not have. So you will need the distribution CD to add it.

I used these to recalculate the check sum in the SPD on the PC memory DIMMs.
