Unique Problem With KS (Detailed Pics)

I have read all the threads I clould find about the knock sensor and I know these questions get repetative but mine is different. I have a green sensor pluged into a green harness with two wires comming out the end that is mounted in the way of reaching into the crevice to get to the KS. My question is what is this? Can it be removed as a whole and how? I can remove the sensor but that does not give me enough space. And is there a write up on how to remove the KS the hard way by removing the manifold(s)?

If im understanding this correctly, the green connector does not allow ur hand to get into the hole, why dont u unplug the connector and try it like that ?

you got the EGR solenoid vacuum on the pic. I just grabbed it with my hand and pulled it up and bent the plate until its out of my way. Then I bent it back.

Yep...remove that green plug to get to it. I used a set of nitrile gloves to get in there. That way the glove got shredded instead of my hand. (Went through a few pair.)

I also used an open ended wrench to get the torque on the bolt I needed when it came out & went back on.

I also used a swivel socket to place the new sensor/bolt in the hole. I added a piece of tape to it to keep it in place until the threads started.

Once the threads started, I got my right hand in there and was able to thread all the way down.

A couple of times, I lost the wrench in there too & had to get a magnet to retrieve it.

If you've read all there is available, then just don't forget to freshen up the metal/metal contacts to the KS at the other end of the harness.

As far as a write up on the manifold removal process, it would be lengthy just due to the gaskets, hoses & various connections that have to be made. While it's off, it would be ideal to get it cleaned up too. I imagine there are bolt torque requirements as well so may be a shop manual would be the best route?

buy the correct tools. Also, your intake manifold is leaking there. Consider reaplcing the "o-ring" thingy. lol. Its rubber and below the intake manifold. lol Had 1/2 hr of sleep last night... work in slow mo right about now....

i have to replace my ks aswell im the owners manual from autozone it sais you must remove the upper and posibly the lower intake manifold. These people are saying you dont which is cool. I have a write up on removal of the upper and lower manifolds but the amount of work involved detered me from wanting to chang it myself at all!

This is besides the point, but what kind of camera did you use to take your pics? Pretty clear.

The "O ring thingy" is actual the Intake Plenum Gasket. $5 part

Like it was said earlier, disconnect the green plug. Next get someone with smaller hands, sister, mom, girlfriend, and have then get there hand in there. You might want to place a piece of leather or rag over the green plug to protect your wrist from getting slashed.
Good luck

i just imagined a new suicide option, by way of the Death KS valley hole

I would think it would be obvious to disconnect the green connector if its in your way...

Duct tape the green plug and all the sharp edges in the surrounding area, so your wrist wont get cut up.

I wrote this up a while ago when I did the KS on my 97 i30, I used a u-joint to manuveur under the UIM and had to unplug that green sensor as well, hope it helps...

If you remove the IM for this job you should be prepared to replace the gasket as well otherwise you will most likely develop a vacuum leak down the road.
