so tommorrow i lower my car.

im not quite sure about the inches, the guy who is doing it for me told me to think about how many inches i want lower. im debating about 2.75 in the front and 2.5 in the back but im worried about when it settles if its going to start rubbing up against anything. and oh yea... im cutting the springs and have a pair of tokico shocks. so what do you guys think should be a good amount of inches to lower it to cover up the wheel/ fender gap.

Get a y-pipe and leave the stock cat back. If you must, get a Cattman B-pipe and a 5th gen rear muffler.

Just save up and get some quality springs. Cutting stock units is just a bad idea. People have done it and we've talked about it before, but in the end, a set of springs is just a better idea.

yeah i was planning on doing y-pipe and headers later on because i like everything about my car except at the ugly lil 1 inch **** hole exhuast. plus mine is bent and it has a couple holes on the muffler so its pretty ugly and soo rusted. so exhaust had to come first for me.

Lowering springs are not that expensive. WHY would you let someone cut your springs.
Dont cheap out, do it right.

Hi-jacked his own thread.

Cutting your springs is a no-no.

-It WILL be a horrible ride,
-you will scrape on just about everything, when you look under you car theres alot of parts that hang quite low,
-stock springs are quite soft, but thats fine when they have full travel to work with
-when you buy lowering springs they have non-linear travel, so you get about 1-2 inches of a "softer feel" with the sping rate, but when you hit a big bump the springs become quite stiff as they compress more.

-a small side note. you will not have any stock spring to go back on if you ever want to sell your car.

its been said before but it really is worth the small extra amount of coin to get real lowering springs.

also. 2.75 is a very low drop, it will start to mess with your alignment, most likely you will need an alignment kit, I would never recommend for than 2.0 -2.2 inch drop unless you have coilovers.

i dont know if you guys do it over in the USA, but over here ive heard of some people doing spring compression. I think basically they throw your springs into an oven and compress them - that way at least you can specify spring height whilst keeping all the coils.

Personally i'd still buy a set of aftermarket springs, as the thickness of the coils on the stock springs is quite skinny (this I guess makes them soft). If you want more drop again, compress your aftermarket springs.

Heating/torching is IMO as bad as cutting.

Yeah..

Not quite sure of the facts backing this up, but i think its a safety issue to cut/torch springs.

Anyway, i have some Tein H-Techs for sale if you want to do it correctly.. -1.2, -1.8.

I actually don't run springs right now. I just run with the strut piston fully compressed. I am getting them welded on tuesday.

2.75 inches will be laughable, you'll literally be riding on your bump stops. I had to cut my bump stops at a 1.5 inch drop. Don't do it.

You want good handling and good looks? Get Eibachs. Cut the bump stops. Cutting your springs is ghey. Do it right.

I knew it. Did you get TT fronts too or are you just running staggered?

Staggered for now, they just kind of fell into my lap so I am hoping I can come by a set of rears (maybe from dorifto folks) and throw some wideboys on there.

I was actually looking for some R33 wheels (wide, forged, nice offset, OEM+ look) but they are all in Cali and I couldn't pass on these guys.

You're probably right Nmex. Anything that compromises the integrity of the spring is bad. Aftermarket springs FTW

Here's what my drop looked like. It's only a 3.5 cm drop (sorry for the lack of imperial measurements again guys!!)

This was a pic taken just after I put them in. Theyve settled a bit more since then.

I didnt want to go too low because of the monsoonal gutters in the tropics - i'd end up losing bits off my car

BEFORE:

AFTER:

heres the stock springs sitting in the box the King springs came in.. lol.. gives you an idea of the size of the drop..

Apologies on the size of the images...

my main vice with Z32s is that they're too F*CKING HEAVY. they're like 21lbs for a 16" wheel. if it weren't for that i probably would look no further for wheels.

how heavy are the R33s?

i bought lowering springs off ebay for a little over one hundred dollars. it was 2.25 front and 2.00 rear. the max looks great and sits level. i've had no problems with it.

Im considering hydraulics, its expensive but at the same time I live in an area where there are tons of speed bumps. I wanna lower the car but if I hit a bump i'm screwed.

Nice vague/ 15th post . I think that with ANY spring/strut combo, you're going to hit a bump, unless you're driving a hovercraft

depends the drop you get, and the size of the bump, and how you go about going over the bump.

I was getting to that, just waiting for him to try and put it in perspective, almost like reading comprehension. Now I think you've confused him, perhaps a bit much for him to digest @ once.
