Yep, I think my alt went out today

I noticed my alternator whining the last few weeks, so I knew it was on it's way out. I was driving and the brake and batt. lights lit up. It was dark so I had my headlights on and they were really dim after the idiot lights came on.

I pulled into my friends driveway, and after I was done working out I tried to start it and there was no power whatsoever. So maybe the batt is gone as well.

Battery is a Yellow Top that is about 4 years old, so it could be bad too. I'll check tomorrow

I just had mine die and I took it to a friend of a friend, who also mentioned the tensioner was broken. SO I would suggest you check the tensioner too because you don't want to buy a new alternator and then still have to wait to get a new tensioner (40 bucks not too bad). Granted I'm a newbie, so just speaking from my limited experience. Oh and he got my alternator wholesale new for $140, so the ebay one is a great deal!!

yeah, but the main fuse is 140A, i got the 130A to play it safe. Still better than the 100/110A oem-rebuilt ones.

There was a factory recall on the 4th gen a while back. You might contact the dealer and see if you're covered. They were replacing alternators on some cars because there was a possibility the alternator could catch file. Not sure if the campaign is still on but give them a call w/your VIN and see... Might be a freebie.
