Fluid change in an 04 SE 6MT. Has anyone done it??
According to the mileage and out of pure preventive maintenance, I would like to change my MT fluid. Has anyone done it on the 6th gen MT and if so, what fluid should I use????
Thanks in Advance

I used Valvoline Synthetic 75-90 and it works nicely too. It also goes into gear easier when surviving our freezing Southern California weather when it drops into the high 30's.
Bro your a superhero. Come visit me here in Canada for some skiing, we'll go and i'll show you -30C weather

Make sure that your valvoline stuff isnt GL5, otherwise it will chew the bronze metals in your tranny.

Thanks to all who contributed. I have decided to go with the Redline MT90 synthetic fluid. Looks like I will get the fluid from Summit Racing which is actually a stones throw from my crib. The service manual is self explanitory regarding the changing of the fluid..
redline mt90
i dont think my trans fluid was changed in the 84k miles that were on it when i got her, so i flushed a bottle of it through before filling
shifts, like, butter, BUTTERRRRRRRRRR
best bang for the buck mod
you will need a torqx bit to take the fill/drain plugs off, and one of those fluid pumps they sell at murrays to make it easier.

Ideally, you want to mix, MTL and MT-90
il_signorre from the nissanclub.com is a guru in fluids and I went with his recomendation 40/60 mix of MTL/MT90 for the closest match to the nissan spec. Boy let me tell you. ITS PIMP smooth.
You will need 2.5 liters of the stuff..... yeah that means 4 bottles for an ideal mixture.
OR...
U can get amsoil GL4 spec manual gear lube. I had that before the Redline mix. Its also FRIGGIN WHICKED.
Speak to Talkinghorse in our GB sections for a great deal on that stuff.
ALL THE BEST.

This site has more than the 6th Gen Forum. This whole thread belongs in the Fluids and Lubes Forum on this site. There is a stickie there for changing manual trannie fluids. Check out the link on that thread that has pictures for changing the fluid in a 6-speed that is the same as our 04 6-speed. I used the pictures and the discussion and did not have any problems. I did buy a funnel with a long neck so that I could pour the fluid in the funnel (located next to the battery) and have it flow into the trannie.
I think you will be fine with either Redline or Amsoil fluid. But be certain that it is rated GL-4 ONLY. You don't want an multiple rated fluid like GL-4 & GL-5.
