Just found some German Castrol at Autozone...

... in Norristown, PA. So I went and stocked up a bunch. There's still some left, though.

The Internets have been going back and forth about whether this stuff has actually been discontinued, but it's clearly very rare nowadays. All the Autozones in my area were out of it for at least a couple of months, but then it magically reappeared recently. Not sure what the deal is.

Anyway, FWIW...

UPDATE: As of yesterday, the Auto Zone on City Ave is stocked all the way to the back of the rack. Looks like this stuff is alive and kicking.

Haven't checked. I will when I get home.

The bottles I've used have been gold, and they all seemed to have recent labels. I will check when I get home.

No, the original GC is green. The gold stuff is still GC (i.e. relabeled Castrol SLX).

And at this point, even if you could find any green GC, it'd be so old that it wouldn't be worth buying.

It's a new line they brought in that is replacing all of their high-end lines (e.g. SLX and RS).

Same or better.

Some Edge oils are basically the old SLX and RS oils, just with a new name and some revisions. The others are new.

Yeah, I bought the last bottles here in Raleigh during the summer (2007) when BITOG was advertising the removal from Autozone. I was out at Autozone the other day and the shelves are fully stocked again with GC. Go figure?

Yup, surprised me too (had to check the back of the bottle to be sure). Made in Germany. I already bought about 30+ quarts.

Went by the Autozone closest to me and they do not have GC. Apparently, some AZ's are carrying it and some aren't.

You can tell if it is GC by the back of the bottle, which will read "Made in Germany" only on Castrol 0W-30.

It's a jack of all trades and a master of several.

It's also pretty much the most ungodly shear stable oil available.

Go here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ register and dig around. It's been discussed at length and is very, very informative. You will get your answer in minutes vs waiting for days from someone else here . Hell don't even register, it has it's own section

Did you get the 5 qt container? That would be nice. I wonder if they would allows to exchange filters. But IMHO the toughgard isn't that bad. It's the base cheapo Fram that sucks the most.
