looking for thoughts on this problem

ok so i got my 92 SE 5spd and it had the 3 bad coils front ones of course and what seems to be a mass air that was no good. so i fix these things got an entire set of coils and a mass air. drove the car what an im provement but i still have this one little problem that feels like some one takes away the gas pedal so if i let off and get back on it kinda fixes itself for a while and all of this happens between 1st,2nd and sometimes 3rd and it will also just die once in a while and strats right back up. now it does buck as bad as it did when the coils were bad but it does buck and sometimes if i can i whatch the tack during these episodes and you can watch it jumo and drop to 0rpm.im leaning towards a throttle position sensor what do you guys ?also it feels like power max's out around 4,500rpm to 5,0000rpm it doesn't feel like my vg did when it pulled to 6 grand of course it was an auto but even still it felt alot better then this car for a car with more horse power and a twin cam engine. dam i miss my vg right now!!!!

Knock sensors have been known to be problematic on the VE, but this may or may not help with your issue...just throwing it out there.

couldnt it also be vacuum hoses leaking in too much air that would cuase his idle to flucuate from time to time. Does your idle normally stay at a solid place when idling or does it go up and down slightly?

unless your coils were new, they could still be bad even if they look OK

here's more

the car run 100% better since i put the coils on. now i didnt change the back coils because they looked good. i also noticed while driving today that once in a while it will do its thing then stall while drive it will just die and putting it in 2nd gear to "pop start" it doesnt work i have to turn the key back and the on and crank it then after that happens it seems to clear up and im good to go then i only deal with the phantom pedal on occasion.this really driving me nuts im thinking maybe to replace the rear coils too.

One of the back coils was the problem with mine. All three looked brand new, but one was malfunctioning. It even tested OK, but under load (acceleration), it was failing.

I had done the same thing you did. One of the fronts was cracked, so I replaced all three front ones. I thought that wasn't the problem, so I swapped in a different ECU, cam sensor, ignitor, o2 sensor, MAF sensor...it was the rear coil pack all that time.

coilpacks are expensive, o2 sensors are expensive, ECU's are expensive, knock sensors are expensive... F-T-M-F-L.

the only time i hate this car is when i'm looking for parts at the auto parts store.

lol...even through all the VE bashing i receive from VG owners....the only things i truly wish i didn't have to deal with are the VTC's and the lack of aftermarket support for the VE....but that means more original mods!

if you decide to get rid of her though...let me know, i need a spare motors, and stuff.

My car is always for sale for the right price. There are LOTS of good spare parts on it.

Exactly what aftermarket stuff does the VG have that the VE doesn't?

The only thing I could think of is it's a bit easier to turbo a VG, but they both need some fabrication and tuning to make that work properly.

well...the VG engine has been around forever, and is still in use (as late as 2004 iirc) 300zx, etc.

and the VE engine was only in production from 92 - 94 in the maxima....

that doesn't exactly explain what aftermarket parts are available for the VG and not the VE, as it relates to the Maxima.

to answer your question

i went on ebay and found a set of six from a car from the west coast with 60,000 on them and for 10 bucks plus shipping i couldnt go wrong i also got the mass air meter from that car for a little more but my mass air meter was fine. but i think maybe if you surf ebay you may luck out like i did.
