Visual differences between different generation Maximas

Bored lately, so beside making that org utility to autopost/delete posts, list all forums, and list today's joined users (PM me if you want a copy), I made this site: http://hackzbox.homeip.net/~pmohr/maxima/ . Basically a listing of the visual differences between different years in 4th, 5th, and 6th generation Maximas.

I'd appreciate feedback on the site, tips, hints, whatever. Something you'd like to see?

If you use the dark style on the org, it'll look a little familiar. May implement a changeable theme later.

EDIT: J30 section pretty much done, just have to do the differences...

00-01 tailights were either all red for the gxe and gle and all black/smoke for the SE. 02/03 had an Altezza style tailight setup. Also, only the 01 5th gen have an anniversary edition. The US spec anniversary edition came with an AE kit while the canadian edition did not.

I've tried to stay away from trim levels, as that would add a bit more work to be done with pics, descriptions, and finding a better way to organize the generation specific pages.

Thanks, though.

Here is a good link for the 3rd gen... (where the trim levels actually mattered! )

By all means, go for it, just a little too much work for me

I had (for the A32, anyway) a 50/50 split to show the diffs, but it doesn't look quite right without the exact same angle on the car...

also, the 89-91 GXE's and 92-94 GXE's had differences as well.

All GXE's had body colored mirrors stock, SE's had Black.
All GXE's had a keyless touch pad entry on the driver and passenger front door's, SE's didn't have the option.
All GXE's had chrome trim around the windows, SE's was black.
All GXE's had chrome trim around the rear brake lights, varying in years.

89-91 GXE had the same front grill as the SE except it was chrome.
92-94 GXE had the same front grill as the SE except it was the chrome.

SE had sawblade wheels
GXE had the half circle holes around the edges of the wheel

89-94 GXE's had a SOHC VG30E Engine with AUTOMATIC
89-91 SE's had a SOHC VG30E Engine with AUTOMATIC or MANUAL.
92-94 SE's had a DOHC VE30DE Engine with an Upgraded Automatic (Essentially the same thing as a VQ30DE's internals stuffed into the 3rd gen tranny bellhousing) or a MANUAL. Both Viscious limited slip diff.

I'll add more when I can think of anything

edit: All GXE's had single outlet mufflers, SE's had two pipes.
SE's had factory foglights, GXE's were dealer option.

I think he's pointing this out because you have an incorrect picture of the 00-01 rear. You have an 02-03 clear taillight pic up there. You should also mention that the 00-01 and the oval exhaust tip whereas the 02-03 had the individual chrome tips.

No mention of the different wheels, side skirts or spoilers?

Here's my old 2000 Max SE at the dealer's just after I traded her for the 2002. You can see the blacked out tail lights that were on the SE models. GXE's were all red.

The link you posted isn't a picture link, and when visited is a privatized forum thread.

Don't forget the spoilers. All SEs come from the factory with a spoiler and the 3rd light built in the spoiler. All GXEs had the 3rd light in the rear deck and no spoiler, even though some dealerships added spoilers.

The GXE foglights are different, too. They are smaller than the SE ones.

Do some other research on rear brakes. IIRC, 89-91 GXEs without ABS had rear drum brakes and all of the rest had rear discs. Certain models 89-91 also had the sonar suspension and HUD as options. I am not sure on the years, though.

I know in 92 a moonroof, ABS and airbag were optional. Airbag was standard 93 and 94.

I agree with most of what you said aside from the brakes. I think all GXE's came with optional drums/discs because my 94 GXE has drums in the rear. While I think SE's always had Discs, I think the ABS package was optional on 92-94's.

I have seen SE's without spoilers, most notably on the 6th Gen Max's. Just yesterday I spotted an '07/'08 SE the same color as mine (Majestic Blue), with no spoiler. At first I thought it was an SL, but the badging on the trunk clearly said "SE".

I've also seen '04-'06 Max's with the SE badging and no spoiler.
