Was on my way home from the post office this afternoon and i'm waiting at a stoplight. A guy in a new style Taurus SHO pulls up next to me at the light (on my right). I had a feeling he wanted to GO cuz he kept glancing over at me. So i played it cool and when the other light turned yellow that bastid starting creeping on me. As soon as the other light turns red HE'S GONE (our light wasnt ever green yet). So once it turns green i take off. Reeled him in like he was standing still...and flew past him. I slowed down because my turn was coming up and he start tailgating me. So i passed my turn and starting taunting him by flooring it...waiting for him to catch up...flooring it...etc etc. Finally we turned onto a nice straight road and it was on! No lie...by the time i hit 60mph i had at least 4 car lengths on him... By 100mph i'd say at least 8-10 or more. (And yes guys, he WAS racing me).

Now i'm not one to streetrace but i thought this guy was gonna at least be competitive! I know the older SHO's were pretty quick...guess these new ones are sleds?

What do those things run?? 16's or something??

The V8 SHO's are lucky to run low 16's. Simply pathetic!

I was at a V8 SHO track day a few months back...Not a single one even broke into the 15's!

I had a 90' 5spd SHO and thoght it was great! Then things started wearing out and costing me money and pissing me off. Yamaha did a REAL KICKASS job on the motor but the rest of the car was crap, especially the trans. Damn tranny alone cost me 3500 bucks before it was over and that required the help of the SHO Shop. I can thank the SHO for one thing though, it turned me on to fast sedans and man do I love my Max!! Lastly, as far as I'm concerned they stopped making SHO's in 95' (last year of the v6). V8 SHOs suck ***...

If it was a newer SHO they do indeed run 16's, I saw one at the track last week run exactly that, 16.1. It looked stock, but I didn't really check since he ran so slow.

Yeah...the V6 SHO's kicked. The v8's are a joke and complete waste. I saw a dyno plot on one of the V8's, which was claimed to make 235 hp, which, in itself is weak for a modern V8 even if its only 3.5L. Well, of the 235 claimed crank hp, only 165 made it to the wheels. Couple that with a portly curb weight...and waaalaaa...theres your 16 second quarter mile.

16.3 for 2000+ Taurus SE

Road and Track had 16.3 in the 1/4 with the Duratec 200 HP V6.

Yamaha needed to do more R&D...

With a 3.5L 5-valve(I think) V8, there's no excuse for making less than 250hp. Think about it: These are the same specs for the 375hp V8 used in the Ferrari 355. same displacement, number of valves, etc.

Yamaha needed to do better in development, that should have been an awesome engine. 275 horses should have been in the bag...

You right the SHO is like 0-60 is like 7.8 sec. and it is only automatic. That is not challenge compare to Maxima. If you have the 5spd Max, you definetely kill that sucker.

Good kill. Look like your car is coming along fine. I really want to see a pic of your 18's on your car though. Maybe soon?

Have you thought about putting in foglights in the factory holes? I put yellow projectors with grills to cover up the holes. It looks really tight with plazma headlights and the yellow projectors. Just a suggestion.
