HELP ASAP - DOOR LOCK FROZEN

Key barely turns. Burned the hell out of it with my lighter, sprayed WD40 into the lock, door gap, and window sill - nothing works. UGHHH

Any suggestions? Maybe theres a way to open the trunk pass-through from the trunk? The trunk does open but I couldnt put the gate down and the manual doesnt tell you if you can...

best bet mate is hot water ... nothing that will gum up the lock. our trunks don't allow you to "pass through", it's just a ski or fishing pole - center fold down. the wd-40 is baddddd stuff - especially for the rubber sill. hot water .....

Hot water will work, Im sure, but 20 minutes later it will turn to ice and I'll be stuck with the same problem in a parking lot

Then use hot water again when you leave the parking lot?

Well, problem solved - it took lots and lots of WD40 but about 2 hours after I first walked up to the car, I managed to unlock it.

Maybe you should spray some silicone lube into it - jtz's right, WD40 strips lube out with the water/dirt. doesn't leave much of it's own lube.

hair dryer .... lol, I guess you could, but you'll need power to do that. (hard to find in a parking lot)

I used a mix of salt and hot water this morning, we get ice storms on the regular here. didn't have any problems the rest of the day, even though it kept freezing rain all day. I'd also sugesst maybe the window washer fluid with anti-freeze (properties) in it ... find it at any wal-mart, Prestone - yellow jug. good stuff - and I put a bit in a spray bottle and use it that way. short of caring a pocket tourch with you ... water, cold or hot really, usually works ok. even the cold will be warmer than the ice ... so it's not all bad. if it's in the lock ... try the other door. I have to do that from time to time to get into my car. you can try to leave a rear door unlocked (not many people are gonna be out to nick your stereo in cold - wet weather)

freekin ice .... last year I lost power for a week and a half due to the ice on the power lines and limbs ... SUCKED! hope not again ...

use graphite lube($3 at autozone).. it doesn't freeze or breakdown parts in the lock.

wd-40 makes your problem worse in the end

Thanks guys.
huyqvu - yep, we had wind chills of around -15 here yesterday, and I also froze my hands off - they still hurt lol
Someone told me that youre not supposed to use hair dryers outside? Is this true? As far as water is concerned - it will just freeze up more within minutes and I'll get stuck in a parking lot where looking for hot water is a pita. How is wd40 bad?

Sounds like you should invest in a key fob! U shouldn't have that problem with it.

wd40 breaks down the viscocity of the grease in the lock mechanism. try to find a bottle of royal purple maxfilm. can use it on other stuff too.
