Tranny Swap/Rebuild or VQ35 Swap?

My tranny is shot, I did a search and didn't find much.

Apparently its gonna cost about $2000 to get my tranny fixed and my friend said it would cost about that much to do a VQ35 swap.

I have a 5th gen auto, 2000 Se.

Can it be done? Would it be practical? Should I just fix the tranny?

well you can't drive a car without the tranny, so either way you have to put up some $ to get the transmission fixed.. but if you can afford it, you might as well go with the VQ35 swap too.. it's very doable, and the 3.5 liter is yummy

i say go for it... if you're doing a tranny swap, would you consider a 6 speed?

Well if I swap the vq35 in doesn't it already have a tranny?

no, the VQ35 just refers to the engine.. the engine and the transmission are 2 separate components.. you would still have your broken transmission in the car after the VQ35 engine swap

your best bet is just to get the transmission rebuilt or swapped.. you could do the VQ35 engine swap too, but you'd have to pay for the engine and the labor of installing that too

p.s... this is pretty well-known information, and i highly suggest you delete this thread before somebody not as nice as me chimes in and starts flaming the hell out out you.. lol

A vq35 swap and 5spd swap + parts is gonna run you around 2500-3000
A used 5th gen auto trans is gonna run around 400-600
A 5spd swap for your 5th gen is gonna run around 1500-2000
Personally if i were you i'd just do the 5spd swap Vq30dek>vq35 anyday

You already have one thread discussing this. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=556073

No need for two.
