Small amount of whine while accelerating
It's very quiet, but if I turn the radio off and listen real hard... any time that I put load on the engine in any gear I hear a small whine from the tranny. Is this normal in the 5.5 gens or am I looking at an impending failure?
It feels strong and doesn't grind or make any loud noises.

i had the same problem. no grinding or shifting issue but like a slight hum when putting a load on the engine. i didnt have it long enough to find out if it was going to turn out to be a issue or not but i think there is a thread somewhere about the noise.
does it do it when you rev in neutral or just under load while in gear?
If you hear it in neutral as well, it could be a bearing in the alternator, ac compressor, belt tensioner pulley, etc.

I'm having the high pitch whine coming espeically from the passenger side.
The pitch gets louder with RPM changes.
It's constantly there, as soon as the car is on, idling, accel/decelerating.
This whine comes from the speakers, because when I disconnected the oem amp, the noise is completely Gone.
I believe this is known as the "Alternator Whine"
Bose Premium stock, changed new alternator and changed the oem amp, but noise still remains.
Did anyone take care of their "whine" problem??? it's bugging the crap out of me.

I've got a whine in my 01 SE. Pretty sure its the power steering pump as it seems to be coming from behind the engine on the passenger side. Plus its always whining. We will see as I am getting my replacement pump in the mail today.
Actually.. Might be your alternator belt is too tight. they do whine a little when tight.
? alternator
I'm on my fourth alternator. The car keeps eating them. NO, im not overtightening the belt. But I think thats what happened to the original one because it still worked but bearings were shot.
When the alt is going bad I can disconnect the plug in the back of it to take the load off it and goes away. This is just to check it out.

OMG I FIXED IT..
i USED TWO GROUND LOOP ISOLATORS CONNECTED BOTH TO THE 4 CHANNEL AMP RCA'S AND THE NOISE IS GONE> OMGGGGGGGG AHHDASJDAOSAHAHS#%^$*&@(PF KYES YES YES!! no more whine
and the quality of music did not decrease at all. hope this helps anyone who suffer the engine whine from their speakers.
