finally fixed, replaced injectors

damn it feels good, car runs smooth again.. was misfiring for about 2-weeks on me.
thanks to everyone who helped me troubleshoot awhile ago, and internetautomart for the injectors.
wish i had money to do the other 4 injectors, but o well..

wasnt so bad replacing them, compared to my old toyota with 100+ vacuum lines EVERYWHERE! i didnt mark a single connection just now, and i got everything back together smoothly, took awhile cause i just went around a few times looking everything over...
and i dont smell any gas, thats good lol.. praying it dont leak.

Congratulations! I have my 92 gxe apart and will be trying to install 2 injectors and get it back on the road this weekend. Right now, I'm waiting on o-rings and gaskets from the local dealer, and 2 reman injectors from fiveomotorsports.com and I'm going to my local Pull-A-Part junk yard today to see if the 92 maxima that came on the yard day before yesterday has the same connectors that I need. Mine were all corroded and the dealer wants like $39 each (one front, one back) for replacment connector harnesses. I'm also going to replace all of the vac hoses and fuel line I can get to while the intake is off. Did you use vaseline or oil on the o-rings when installing the injectors? Did they go in pretty easy?

I second the about remans. I purchased 6 remans from the same fiveomotorsports a year ago, I have since had to replace 3 of the 6. The failure rate is very high on remans and you really are better off paying more and getting new. Even if you can't afford to replace all 6 with new, just do 2 here and there and they will all be done before you know it. Fiveo does offer a warranty on their remans but I didn't even bother. I just wanted to be done with it and not have to worry about it anymore.

I actually wound up using some engine oil treatmant I had kicking around (which i would never use btw, its old) it was thick and oily, i had no vaseline, and oil is to thin IMO.. they still didnt sit right in fully.. I had to put the cap on them, and slowly turn the screws, switching left to right.. I was afraid that could damage the lil metal pin, but its all working, nothings leaking..

ONE thing, the hardest part i encountered was.. those damn fuel lines, the 4 sections each about 3 inches long, they gotta come off, and they do NOT like too come off.. LOL, i wish i had bought some new fuel line tubing, so i couldve just cut them off.. i had to mangle them off, PITA!!
so when i eventually go into it all again to replace the other 4 injectors, i will replace vacuum lines and those fuel lines.

oh, and although i havent driven it much yet.. it seems my gas mileage has improved greatly!
alot of restored power, and sounds good again.. i even decided to go ahead and leave my VTC ungrounded.. which i only grounded cause it was running pour, ive never really had any signifigant "clack" noise to lead me to believe my VTCS are bad.

I got mine back in and they seem to be working except now I have a coolant leak from somewhere dropping onto the exhaust manifold in the front. Does coolant flow in the upper or lower intake/plenums? Maybe I pinched a gasket?

I'll be digging into it this weekend. Maybe it's just a hose that I didn't get on right...

Thanks

I took off my fuel rail a few months back, I tested recently and 2 failed! They were perfect when I took them off and tested them. Luckily my spare set are still good.

Dude thats the bloody hose that's leaking in my car. Are you telling me that the mechanic at the garage had to UN-CLAMP those little hose pieces making up the INJECTION FUEL TUBE ASSEMBLY?

Maybe he is the source of the leak since it wasn't leaking before him, and after he replaced injector #1 & #5, that tiny hose on the drivers side of the assembly is leaking PLUS either the input hose or the output hose from the rail assembly.

If you are telling me to do the injectors those had to be nudged in any way. maybe I can get this done by warranty and sit back and smile.

Please let me know...time is running out - I think I have up to the last day of MAY to make my claim, if in fact there is one.

P.S. I showed him where the leak was the other day and he said "I replaced one injector on the front and one on the back (which is wrong, 1 & 5 are on the back), and as you can see the fuel leaking is off to the side here.

in order to do ANY injector he had to disturb the fuel lines. they may however have been bad to begin with and his disturbing them brought the leak to your attention.

My steaming/leaking coolant problem seems to have gone away. I suspect I just had a small pool of coolant sitting somewhere that got hot and now that it's all boiled away, it's not doing it any more.

But, now I seem to have one of my replacement (Reman) injectors (cylinder #5) not working. I can swap the injector wires from #5 and #3 and #3 continues to work and #5 does not. I can also listen to the injector using a piece of hose (According to a poster on another thread, we look retarded when we do this, but it works) and the #5 is not ticking.

Fiveomotorsports is offering to test the injector when I send it back and repalce it if it shows bad, but I think I may be getting with internetautomart to order a new one.

it boils down to how long and how often you can be down that car. personally I can't be down a car at all anymore so I want stuff that will work right away and last. I pay more for those "features" but I have peace of mind which is priceless

Speaking of injectors, I have my fuel rail out right now and I'm wondering what those little yellow retainers are for? Do they just hold in the small o-ring? I am searching all over the site and can't find it anywhere. I have a few with broken prongs and am wondering if I should replace them. Thanks!
