knuckles interchangeable? wheel bearing replacement
knuckles interchangeable? wheel bearing replacement
I finally decided to get this taken care of now that the humming noise at low speeds has gotten progessively louder and can now be heard at highway speeds- sounds like wind but its not!
I hit a pothole around here like 4 weeks ago and just didnt have the time to take care of it. I also didnt feel like shelling out $400 plus to have a local mech take care of something i know i can do (thank God for FSM's and the org.) Anyway, I have the wheel bearings and the seals and I figured I should call the local junk yards, get a used spindle/ knuckle and have a shop in the bearing to this spindle. A local yard has one for a 97 with no abs (dont have abs either) but I have a 96.
So, question- are the knuckles swappable among all 4th gens? Search did not reveal anything on the subject so I'm putting this out to you fellas!

excellent nhaven! I was actually on that site a few weeks back for something and it didnt occur to me to check that until you brought it up!
Anyway, just picked it up, going to get the bearings pressed in shortly. Im going get all the bolts soaked in pb blaster and will get on it first thing in the am- hopefully this will help with any rust issues!
No ABS. The knuckle i had from the yard had something sticking out broken- freaked me out for a few seconds until i realized that was just for the ABS sensor.
Took my time- took me 4 hours altogether. One thing i just realized though-you need a garage, especially with the heat. jeez! Thats my new requirement when I go home shopping !!
