Personal Best on Street Tires CVT Max Makes two 14.1 passes!

Last night I went to the track after work I didn't have time to put the drags on so I was a little heated about that but that all changed very soon my first pass I ran a 14.14@97MPH on street tires I was going bananas! and my last pass I ran a14.12@97MPH! I ran four passes two 14.1's and two 14.2's it was a good night. The difference in my times where this, my best times prior on street tires was a 14.45 and on drag radials 14.24 w/F5CAI. On Saturday I put the Greddy SP-2 back on the CVT and the factory exhaust onto the 04Max. I have to say that difference in 3 tenghts came from the greddy exhaust pulling me thru the second half of the quarter. With drag radials I think I can definitely pull off a high 13 second pass. I'm very impressed with how the CVT responds to mods. Here's the Timeslips:

WTG Kevin. That's really impressive considering the simple mods you have. I told ya', 13s are not far away.

It's not the CVT so much as the latest FWD VQ's are just plain stronger than ours.

I thought they had the vq35de? Or is it the vq35hr? I thought the 6 gen maximas had always had the same hp.

hmmm thats as quick as some b16 swaped hondas...nice times they just keep improving. I think headers would make the car fly if it responded so nice to just the catback. Nice times keep it up!

Yeah I just heard so many negative things about them I would have thought they would run crappy times.

Proves us nay sayers wrong. The 07-08 Max doesnt use the HR. AFAIK it uses the same engine as the 6th gen, the power on paper went down because of the SAE changes. I dont think ive ever seen a 6th gen with intake and catback cut a 14.1. I think a lot of the difference is how the cvt has the ability to keep the engine in its powerband pretty much all the time and from what ive noticed, gets less wheel spin then previous 6gens.

Honestly, after driving a 09 CVT, there pretty damn quick. Same with the 07+ altima 3.5 with the cvt, there pretty damn quick too..

They are not HR's, but they are different from previous maxima engines just the same. Different heads, more aggressive camshafts, better intake manifolds (upper and lower), etc. These engine are more powerful, period.

Excellent times, rivalling many of the 5.5gen 6spd times i've seen posted up here.
And as for the guy claiming he ran close to a b16swapped honda... what, with spray??? honda's b16 motor is pretty weaknuts, 160hp (at the flywheel!)

Ahh i see what you meant. I thought you were implying that they were HR compared to the 1st gen VQ35.

Question, if you dont mind me asking. Is there any difference between the 07-08 VQ35 compared to the 04-06 VQ35? I didnt think there is, but perhaps you can englighten me.

LOL i dont have a honda. But i go to the track often and i know a guy with a built b16 running low 14's so i was just saying wow slap two mods on this maxima and its beating some peoples projects that they spent months on.

Ahh, gotcha -- all good. Last time I went to the track, I caught a severe beating from a little stripped-out red honda hatchback. Dude had a motorswap w/ a turbo - ran a low 12 @ 111mph -- dude didnt even have a helmet on, lmao! The ppl that hand-out the timeslips at the end were chewing him a new one. But you are right, low 14's with 2 easy boltons, is definitely nice for the CVT and mad props to kevin007, before u know it he will be swapping all the parts off his '05 lmao!

That is a testament to the later VQ35s and some very good driving......so how does the last 1/8 mile trap speed compare to traditional 4ATs w/the 3.5? I was thinking the 4spd gained over 20mph but maybe I was wrong....

Great job!

Thanks for all the kind words. When I first bought the CVT I thought it was slow because every time I launched it I would only get a wheel chirp and no tire spin and most of all no torque steer. So it really felt like it was slow but the car is so much smoother off the line with the CVT I dont feel weight transfer or Torque steer like I do on the 04Max. If I had the same mods on my 07 that I have on the 04 Max I would be running high 13's easy, minus the juice of course.

I also figured out how to get better times from the car on the upper end because the TPS starts to close after 75MPH causing it to lose HP on the top end thank's to Big Dave who ran a 14.5 in his CVT Max bone stock by launching in drive all the way up to 75MPH and then slapping it into manual mode increased the MPH thru the traps.

My best time with the 04Max 2.17 60' 14.12E.T 97MPH w/F5CAI, SP-2 Catback exhaust, Cattman Y-Pipe, Cat deletes, Kinetex upper intake manifold, Drag Radials and ECU reflash. Those times were in march with cooler air the temperture was 58 .

I wonder what those mods would gain you with the '07. It really is hard to imagine that the cvt would be better than the auto at the dragstrip.

Judging from kevin's times that appears to be the case though. The 07 must be making more power in stock form vs the 04

I think with the same mods I have on the 04 Max I could run 13.8 in the 07Max on motor.

I don't think the '07 makes any more power...judging by the much lower mph when stock when conpared to the other non-cvt cars. I just think the cvt shows it's efficiency when launching and on up to around 80 mph when the normal tranny seems to be more effective.

the best I could do was a 14.1@98MPH I was on street tires I couldn't hook that well all my passes had some wheel spin as the temps get cooler I'm gonna need to the put my drags on because of the better air that extra torque down low will probally make the difference in running a 13.9 or 14.0. with my current setup.

Those are awesome times for a stock Max. If your not under warranty anymore Headers is all you need to run high 13's if you are still warranty I would start with F5 CAI, Cattman Y-pipe. With the times your running now you would break high 13's with just the F5CAI and Cattman Y-pipe.

damn good times... you would be in the 13s with just an intake and catback.. i'm still in the high 14s in my 6 speed 03 max with stillen intake.. i cant seem to get my 60 ft. any lower than 2.3.. best 1/4 time so far was 14.6

Update to this post I didn't want to start a new post I went to the track on Saturday I ran my best time P/B with the CVT Max 14.09@98 MPH with the same mods the only difference was cooler air temps. and good track prep I was on street tires.

Damn, great runs Kevin; you're one of hell of a driver! I am just waiting on my AEM CAI filter to come in time this week. Is Capitol Raceway still open on Fridays? If it is, I'll be there next week, Tony (vqaltima) just changed out my spark plugs, installed NWP spacers and gave me his SSIM.

Hopefully I can finally break into the 13s...

OFFTOPIC: Tony I'll have that computer ready for you next week. I found some hard drives I had lying around.
