Changed Hood Lift Supports

After getting smacked in the head by the hood falling down, I decided to replace the supports as they were getting weak.

I bought new ones off eBay from a seller called Parts Avenue for $44.23 including shipping. The hood supports are made by a company called TUFF SUPPORT.

I ordered it Tuesday night, I got today (Friday).

Very straightforward installation and my hood stays up now Just hope it lasts a long time.

The one on the bottom is the new one.

Is it me, or do your new ones look quite a bit shorter then the oem's?

That's what I thought also, but it fit just fine. The hood seems to open as high as it did before.

If I lift the hood about 2/3 of the way up, the hood lifts to the end of the travel by itself now.

well it may seem like the hood opens up the same, but there is no way it could due to the difference in length of the new supports. i would guess about 2-3 inches less opening at the top of the hood.

either way, it's better then my hood support.

Mine are completely gone now, the hood falls under it's own weight with no resistance.

Those supports worked last year then slowly got worse and finally it smacked me in the head when I was peering into the void one day. Quite painful.

I'm going to try and make some ghetto rods to hold it up the old fashion way. Don't know if it originally came with a rod, but I certainly don't have one. They should have at least provided a backup.

every couple of months, pepboys has a buy one get one free (after rebate) sale. if you can wait for that, that's what i'd do. they'll give you a lifetime warranty with them, too.

it's really nice having new ones. i can lift my hood a couple of inches and the hood lifts will keep it up
