Misc issues inside....come on in!

I have a few misc issues with my car i'de like some input on.

1. The digital climate control does not light up. Anyone know the cause of this? It works fine, just cant see what im doing.

2. When I start the car in the a.m. I always have to bump the gear shifter or the car will not crank. It there something loose or is this a common issue. This has been around for over 10 years!

3. My windshield washer resivor is leaking. Is this common? Im not sure where it is leaking or how to pull the resivour.

1) ?
2) shifter bushings. about $4, if that, from your dealer. it's usually the one on the shifter itself (where the cable hooks onto it, above the catalytic converter. 5 minutes to replace.) but it can also be the one on the tranny, which is just as easy to replace.
3) it's not uncommon. pull away the black plastic inner fender and take a look after filling it up, to see where it's coming from. I've never actually removed one, but i hear it isn't that hard.
4) ???
5) profit?

1 - Replace it, you can try and fix it by soldering, but it probably won't do any good. It's why I have 5 spares.

wow, this guy seems to have similar issues.

my climate control display doesnt work but the system works, that said it will light up once in a while. i tried opening up the car and checking for loose wires but it didnt seem like there were any

my shifter bump is a bit more drastic than yours. more like put it in ever gear and then try starting it again.

hope you find the answers. might help me out too.

The shifter problem is a bad shifter bushing, both you guys need to replace it.

I didn't think mine was a bushing at first either. car wouldn't start, or even try to. i called my brother for a jump, and he told me to try and start it, and it started. i was so confused. then i started having trouble getting it into the right gear range. When shifting into D do you ever have to go into 2, then back into D, or else it stays in neutral?

well, in the mornings it usually wont start if i dont wiggle the gear lever. sometimes a nice bump will get it to turn over the engine other times i have to take it down to neutral and sometimes its a guessing game, P to N back to P back to N, etc. That said when it does start up and i put it in D it wont select D, it'll stay in park. then i have to push it into N and back to D, more than once sometimes, and it'll start working. Finally. It'll forget it's in D from time to time while im driving and go into N. In that case I have to let off the gas and put it in N and back into D and hope it catches the gear.

still think its bushings?

it could be, yea. cuz if there is play in the linkage then the inhibitor switch (tells tcu what gear the shifter is in) will be off as well. perhaps it's right on the border of D and N and hitting a bump in the road will jolt it into N. it's a longshot for that particular part, but for $4 and 5min, there's no reason NOT to at least CHECK for the bushing's existence...

It's the Bushings dude. Had the same problem in both my VG-Auto and VE-Auto. Replace it, 20 minute job, $3 part.

I had the same issue with mine, it didn't go totally off, but it went very dim and was almost impossible to read during the day, but sometimes it would come good, spent many hours trying to track it down, eventually found a cracked surface mounted capacitor on the board inside module.

Unless you have the skills, time and patience to track it down, I suggest you just get another module.

1. try to solder the loose contacts like Hectic said or just go to your local junkyard and get another unit.

2. had the same problem when my car was an Auto. its your bushings like everyone on here says.

3. take off your inner fender, fill up the reservoir and look where its leaking from. most likely either the rubber hose came off or the rubber grommet on the pump is worn. for the hose just cut off the end and connect it back on the pump but if its the rubber grommet just take the pump off and replace the grommet from one at the junkyard.

4. that'll be $50 please and i accept paypal
