Eibach/ Illuminas now my car is a drift car

Well its not really a drift car but the rear end comes out on me all day long. I have GoodYear GSD3 an adjustable RSB and eibach/ Illuminas with the front set to 3's and back set to 4's. I live in a place where the roads are complete Sh%* so I cant set to a firmer setting. Everytime I go through some turns I notice my rear ends slides out on me, any tuning tips you guys maybe I should set the rears to a softer setting or is the rear sway bar adjusted to aggressive, the brackets are currently set right past the brake line. Any tips greatly appreciated and thanks for your time.

I almost find this hard to believe.. If theres anything a Maxima is not.. its tail happy, although I did find after installing the same setup I was able to rotate the rear end very slightly under very hard cornering, but deff nothing I would consider tail happy.

To address your issue. I dont know what RSB you have but very generally a very tight RSB will reduce your traction out back. Try loosening or taking off the RSB and see if that makes any difference.

Id try disconnecting one side of the RSB and see if it still very tail happy, does it feel unstable at all while cornering?

I don't know what you're experiencing cause I've had that setup on my car for 3 years and I have never had such a problem.

Plus I have proxes4 with about 55k on them so they are pretty well done and I still dont have that issue, nor should normal wear create an oversteer condition because if anything, these cars wear the front tires more than the rears which should make understeer more prominent.

Like I said before the only thing I can think of is the rear sway bar.. other than that I would try loosening the rear struts a click.. but if the rear sway bar doesnt fix it.. I dont know what to tell you.. Theres not a lot on these cars thats adjustable so we're not working with tons of variables like a race car.

Did you change anything else on the car before you started noticing this?

Or was it a pretty sudden and immediate change after the springs/struts install?

sturt bars only aid in chassis bracing/stiffening.

Try firming up your front struts (or loosening up your rears) by two clicks, or try removing the RSB (or just unhooking one side).

With my rear struts on full firm and the fronts on 1/2 way (and a RSB) I can definitely feel the car's tossability... feels like it corners pretty neutrally, under neutral throttle there is very little understeer to the point where it feels I'm almost oversteering, but I've never had to countersteer yet unless I was trail braking.

You must have a pretty meaty RSB to create overstear on a front wheel drive car.

hmm u ever fix this?,... maybe while installing u f'd up the brakes,.. and now u have a semi sticking capiler?,.. or maybe your e brake is causing it to stick.. that would help oversteer but still not like u say.. idk..if ur near snow i sure hope u dont drive in it like that lol

your tires must be garbage. I ran Eibachs/Illuminas with a RSB for well over a year (before adding other things) and never lost the tail, even in heavy autocross maneuvers.

You sure you're actually losing the tail, because with the beam axle/"panhard bar" setup you might just be feeling the axle shift, which gives the feeling of the tail sliding but the tires aer actually gripping fine.

Stiffen up your front struts. I always ran fronts at 5 and rears at 3 or 4....stiffer in back creates more oversteer.

even with my jic rears set on theyre firmest with 8k springs i dont get crazy oversteer. i think my cars rather neutral. the rear can be swung out but its not easy nor usually benefical to me. perhaps its just that ur not used to the new way the car feels. everytime i do suspension work i have to relearna bit how the car reacts to the road.

Agreed. I can purposely lose the tail with DD tires on wet pavement, but I have never lost the tail before hitting understeer in performance situations (even with stickies on the front and DD's on the rear, ahh the poor college days )

The guy answered his own question/concern. The roads suck...he's getting bump oversteer, not the oversteer most of us encounter on the track or auto-x. His rear is too stiff, as many have pointed out. So loosen up the rear... softer setting on the illuminas, remove the RSB, drop rear PSI a bit.

a33i30: describe the road conditions. Do you remember the 3rd gen chase through #2 hwy that ended in oversteer?

There is your answer. Weight transfer over crest means less weight on the back wheels, which in turn means less friction on the road from your tires, which means oversteer possibilities.

clear roads, it was hot that day, the car basically started understeering then i tapped the brakes a little and the a$$ went out, i tried the same corner the other day and it didnt oversteer O_o. It was probably becouse i tapped the brake.

It shouldnt be surprising that you oversteered then...
