Someone out there please, post a picture of your amp power wire going thru your firewall. If no one can do that, please help me out by decribing where you went thru your firewall. Here's what I've got so far...
I am thinking of drilling thru near the bottom, behind the brake pedal. When you pull back the carpet, there's a small square flap of rubber/insulation (about 3X3). When you pull down this flap you can see bare metal. I want to drill thru that, but, like I said, it's near the bottom, and I'd like to go higher. The problem is I can't really judge where to drill any higher for fear that I'll puncture my A/C or brake lines (or God knows what else!). Man, I can't even safely say that the spot I found near the bottom doesn't have something behind it!

If any one has info on this *PLEASE* help me out!!

Thanks,

Justin

a spot to use

Use the spot where you hood release cable pass's through. To access it you need to take the back half of the drivers side wheel well liner loose.

i have an answer for u. if u are talking about the same diamond-like-shape insulator that u can pull off on the firewall near the brake pedal than i have done that. i have no pics tho. if u drill straight through there than u will not hit anything. i don't think it's too low. u can't see it unless u put ur head down and look at it. looks very clean. this is what u should do if u want to drill there. start with a small drill bit to have a starter hole. then upgrade to a bigger bit. continue till u get ur desired hole. i have two half-inch hole. place silicon around the hole when done. remember when fishing ur power through that hole don't pull against the side because it will strip the insulator of the power wire and will cause a short. big problem then. just to be safe put some electrical tape around the hole to keep the edge of the hole stripping the insulator. voila you're done.

thanks guys... just a quick follow-up...

What a relief to hear that someone else has already done this.

Mardi- were you able to run a 4-guage wire thru the hood release grommet, and did you have to cut it open to get it thru?

Yellowbrother- I'm talking about a little flap in the firewall insulation right behind the brake pedal that folds down to reveal bare metal, so I think we're on the same page.

I think the hood release method might be easier, but I need to make sure it'll accomodate such a big wire without messing up the release mechanism.

Thanks again for the excellent advice guys. Soon I will have music again!

If you look in the hood near the back in the middle you'll see a black rubber grommet. That leads right to the back of the middle console. What I did was pull this grommet out, and drilled a small hole in the middle of it. I then fed the wire through the grommet and put it back in place making it watertight.

Drill a hole right by the clutch. This goes for autos and 5 speeds. For the autos, its easier then the 5 speed but it still can be done.

Finally got it!!

Mardi, you were close. I found that the hood release cable passes thru a TINY little grommet. But when I pulled the wheel well out I found a MONSTER grommet with a big bundle of wires. I cut a hole in that and ran my 4 guage.

Thanks everyone for you help. Especially you Mardi, for pointing me in the right direction.

I have music now!!!!
