Question about front wheel hub
Question about front wheel hub
I have to replace the wheel bearing and the guy at the machine shop told me that my hub was no good because the old bearing wore down the surface metal which now means that the new bearing would be too big for it. A new hub is like $160, and just got laid off and don't want to spend money for another hub if I don't have to.
Now for my question:
Should the hub have a tight fit when starting to press on the new bearing, or is it loose in the beginning and get tighter as it gets pressed together? Mine is loose but the old bearing race is still attached to the bottom so I can't press it all the way on to see if it actually gets tighter when fully on.

well i just bought one on ebay for about 80 and free shipping. it's used but the guy that sold it has 100% feedback and seems to specialize in maxima/i30 parts. hope that it works! but can anyone answer my original question: is the hub supposed to start off with a tight fit even before the wheel bearing is pressed all the way on? Or is it easy to get on and just gets tight when the bearing is fully seated?
i got my front hub and bearing and got all my parts new from dave b from southpoint nissan
~135 for hub, ~55 for bearing, ~10 for each gasket(oil rings).. and 150 to install the whole thing.. i got it install with the mechanic and he slightly messed it up.. so take it to a good one..

135 for hub? I guess you got the real deal. I don't remember mine being that much. I got mine through the local dealer. The bearing sounds about right, as well as oil gaskets. $10 to press. My bro installed for me.
Whats up with all these rip off artists in omaha? the cheapes guy will press the bearings in for $60!!! Jensen-$80, Nissan DEalership-$140, Brake Masters-$245!!! If only I had access to a press...
the horrah... the horrah.

I think on his last page he talks about pressing it in if I'm on the right page with you guys. He did it all himself so try it out.

You guys that got new hubs... how was the abs sensor dealt with?

Most local shops have a press. You should very easily be able to find someone who'll press a new bearing in for next to nothing.
$60 is the cheapest.I might try tapping it in with a brass punch but I have to get the hub and see how difficult it's going to be. If all fails with the punch I'll be shelling out $60.
Nealoc Thanks for the help it's totally tubular!
