I Have been shopping for some new tires for my 06 max. I saw the GY Eagle F1 GS2 (Ultra high performance summer tires) at tirerack.com for 100 bucks a piece. I have always wanted a stickier tire so these really jumped into my eyes. They were ZR speed rated which means triple digit speed would be confy.

I asked Discount tire to price match it, and after (what felt like pulling teeth, since ordinarily the GS2 are 300 bucks a piece), they agreed to match it. Well a week later, the tires are there, they install them and yadi yada...uh it's not the GS2s on there, it's the F1 all season. So my question is, does this mistake help me?

I mean I originally wanted the GS2s b/c I live in San Antonio Texas, we do not have winters, and therefore we can live with summer tires all year long. The GS2s marked higher on grip but was a tick lower on ride confort, noise, and obviously snow traction was horrible..2 out of 10. The All season scored highest average wise and seem to do everything better if you average it out.

Sooooo can you guys advise? I am dreading to have to go back to Discount tire and wait another week for the GS2s to come in. I guess price wise, these are 190 bucks at tirerack so I am still really getting a steal by paying half of that per tire.

As is and driving it for about 60 miles now, these are way better than what I had (both the original equipment RSA and my replacement Falkens). I did 120s and they sing beautifully in the cabin, felt like 85-90 as before 110's would create a lil wallowing sound. So, Should I keep? Or go back and have them rectify the mistake?

I guess the ultimate question I am asking (and I know it's hard to answer without experiencing it first hand) is: Would the GS2's provide that much more grip than the all season and will this extra grip suffice to sacrifice a louder cabin, a less comfy ride, and a useless traction in snow?

Thanks for the tip. The Discount Tire near my home price matched the deal with no hassle Dang, $98 for GS2's??? Nang Kang tires comes to mind when you said <$100

Nothing I guess. Usually when I do a search for tires, the NS-2's are the first one on the list for that price.

 

A Discount tire about 20 minutes from my house was really the only place that was close to cooperating. And I think this guy ONLY did it b/c it was store policy, He really trully did not want to do it.

Sears would do it also and they carry the GS2s but I just wanted to do it at a place that's an expert on tires so I decided to go with Discount tire

I Called a bunch of places like NTB, good year, yadi yada, they laughed at me when I told them $100 for GS2s, they said grab that, that's crazy.

I called tirerack and asked them why they are so cheap..apparently they bought tons of them.

 

Man thats a great deal, I would keep them. I may be next in line to get those tires. I need new shoes for the 05 SE.

 

What size tires did you get? I don't see anything decently large for $100/tire on TR now... :shrug:

 

I've got the NS-1's on my '96. They're still really good even though they're pretty warn down.

 

First check your invoice. If it states that GS2 on it but you have F1 tires, they -MIGHT- not warranty it if your tires crap out (blow out, nails, etc). If your invoice shows F1 but with the price of the GS2, then have fun with the F1 and dont bother exchanging IMO. Because the gripping is not gonna be a whole day and night different, so... it's really up to you. And if you decide to sell them back out, you can make more money!

The GS-2 is still an F1 tires, they just got the wrong type on there.
F1-All Season instead of GS2
they also have a GS3d or some thing like that

anyways, there are about 5 or 6 different F1 tires.
