ve intake plenum off...safe to clean?

Im putting a new gasket on the upper intake plenum on my VE. Its off right now and it looks like the lower and upper intake could use a little bit of cleaning. I was wondering if its safe to use intake/fuel injection cleaner and maybe a tooth brush or a lint free towel and scrub what i can reach clean? I don't want to remove the lower intake. Is it ok to spray intake cleaner into the lower intake with it bolted to motor? if so how much is safe?

I was thinking of spraying a lttle at a time and scrubbing with a lint free towel. If it is ok to do, anyone have any good methods or tips for me? Thanks

lol, really, the dishwasher will clean one out really nice, i would wait until the wife/gf is out of the house before sticking it in the dishwasher..

You can also use carb/throttle body cleaner also, get about 5-6 cans of the cheapo autozone carp cleaner, then spray the sheit out of it.

Brake parts cleaner will also cut the grease/grime nicely..

now what about the lower intake? I dont want to take that off because it looks like id have to pull the fuel rail which means i would new new injector o-rings, not too expensive, and a lower intake gasket which is around $40-50

i was hoping i could clean that while on the car as long as i dont overspray in it

Edit: nevermind, I wouldn't need new injector o-rings..new insulators would be a good idea tho.

Yes, you can clean out the lower intake without removing it, just use some carb/tb spray and an old toothbrush, i don't recommend it, too much crap will be washed down into the combustion chambers.

lastly, yes you will have to pull the injector rail to remove the lower tb.
