Places to mount amps in the trunk?
Places to mount amps in the trunk?
So I thought this was going to be straight forward. I was going to screw my amps to the back of the rear seat like I have done on my fourth gens. Well the third gen does not have a metal plate behind the seat like my fourth gens. So I have thought about cutting a peice of ply wood and securing it to the open area behind the seat then screwing the amps to that. What have you guys done about this problem? I am mounting one Infinity 4 channel amp, and one JL250 amp, to give you guys an idea on the sizes I am looking at.
I mounted a piece of carpeted board to the rear corner and screwed my amp on that. It has been there for about 5 years with no issues. I need to get an amp for my sub and I would possibly mount that on the other side, but that would mean moving my jack somewhere.
I also stripped out a bunch of the carpet and plastic stuff, but I didn't mind that.

I have boxes for my 6x9's mounted in the stock location in the back. I bought some "L" brackets, and mounted a piece of 1"x10"x(whatever, cant recall the dimensions) wood, mounted my amp there. works fine so far. and its out of the way, for the most part.
do you have a picture of that?
Make a plate like this... (with or without subs, of course.
)
Then just screw them to the back.

Make some rough measurements with tape measure back there, then draw it onto a piece of cardboard. cut the cardboard a bit bigger and then trim until it fits. once you get it fitting right, trace that onto some plywood or MDF and then screw the MDF into the car.
OR... you could build an amp rack like I did...

if i where u id mount it to the bottom of the rear deck ive mounted several amps there. mines attatched to the back of the seat with some spacers for room for heat to escape. or u could mount it under a seat or completely hide in in the spare tire compartment but usually thers a tire there lol
Mounted mine on top of the sub box itself... don't know if there is some rule where you're not supposed to do that but I've been running it like that for 2+ years with no problems. Little 400w Clarion 2ch amp bridged to a 10" enclosed kicker. Only pic I have is kind of ****ty but here it is:

You generally don't want to mount an amp upside down. the amp is designed around heat rising, and uses that to help keep it cool. If you mount it on the bottom of the rear deck, be careful and keep a close eye on it for the first couple weeks to make sure it's not overheating during long playing times. Since it's cold outside right now, be sure to look at it again in the summer when things warm up.
Mounting it on top of a sub box or under the seats is perfectly fine, Given you have proper airflow to the amp. a couple inches of space above it for airflow is fine.

Lots of people mount the amps to their enclosures. One bad thing about that is if someone breaks into your trunk, it is very easy to steal the amp and sub if they can get your box out. I mean, it minimizes the time they would spend getting things.
I have my box bolted to the brace behind the seat, so you have to take out the back seat to remove it.
ive just got mine sitting in the corner. main reason is when me and another guy did the wiring, we underestimated and the 2 white/blue plugs have like 3" of length from the back seat. its a pain to switch amps
Hardware store -- True Value to be precise. It cost me maybe $8 or so.
Four matching "L" brackets and two "U" bolts. I just went to the back where they have everything loose and found U bolts that lined up with the holes in the L brackets.
That picture was taken when I first started working on it. It has bent that aluminum bracket some, but it works well (it's been like that for maybe 4 years). It is virtually impossible for someone to figure out how it is mounted when you are in the trunk. When you take the back seat out, it's not that hard to take the box out.
When I go to the track, I take the seats out, anyway, and just unbolt the box at the U bolts and the rest of it comes out without having to take every nut off.

that is sick... real nice set up but how u gonna hide the wires? or u really dont care about that... it doesnt matter tho anybody that doesnt like tha way that looks is a hater.....! lol but yeah nice set up
thats not a bad idea. my sub box always slides around under hard take offs or turns. thats not good since i have my wires all under the box
i just mounted my amps to the box, but i know its not a good idea

I did mine a little different this time around. I mounted 2 rectangular pieces of some semi rigid plastic I found laying around on either side of my armrest in the trunk. Then I cut it to desired length width and took it out. Next I mounted an amp on each and re-installed. I prefer plastic to MDF for obvious reasons. Plastic is way lighter and easier to cut to fit. Maybe I can find a pic, but its a clean job and when i open my trunk, you cane see the amps at all, just the sub box. I mounted a cap to the sub box so it illuminates through the center armrest.
$0.02
$0.02
sliding sub. boxes
My 2x kicker L7's use to slide all around in my trunk and one day I got tired of it and used half a can of that spray on bed liner on the cardboard tire cover then placed some rubber shelf liner below the trunk carpet and on top of the carpet then set my box on top of all of that and I haven't had to move it since, even after I whip it around corners
Plus I would hate to put all that effort for a nice outcome. Then some a$$hole comes along to screw it up whether they are succesful at stealing my stuff or not. I believe its worse if they don't. All my stuff is here but torn and broken up to where I couldn't use it.
