Thoughts, 2k1 vs 2002 Max, what you think?

Man, I am having a hard time now trying to keep myself from getting the new 2002 6spd Max. I just want to get rid of the car payment and keep a car, but that 6spd 255hp sounds so nice!!

If someone got 23k for a 2k trade, I could at least get 22k. But still, I dunno if it is really worth it. I love my Max, hasn't given me any problems, got 12k of miles now, its fast for what it is, it gets me there, hate black color though, but its bad *** looking when its clean.

I soon to have HID 2k2 lights installed , and other goodies. I am just rambling on here, but can't decide what I want to do.

My 2k1 seats are much more supportive than the 2k2s (more sportier feeling), instead of luxury feeling like the new ones. I like my gauges better, and tail lights. Uggg help!

I say trade it in. You havent done any drastic mods. If I were you, I'd definatally bring it back to stock, trade it in, and get a new '02 SE 6spd for like 3-5k

IMHO the new 5spd V-6 Altima with duals looks better than the new max. It also handles better.(according to Autoweek. They quoted "I wonder why Nissan let us drive these 2 back to back." I would get that and it would proly be an even trade ? If you don't mind the cheeper interior.

OR, if you wanna wait a while, maybe get the new Z. That thing is gorgeous.

Just trying to help.

just so everyone keeps in mind, this nissan salesman over at Ancira Nissan said that the Maxima was going to get another redesign for 2003, plus if you were seriously looking at a Z, you can compare then. i wouldn't get a new car in the first place. you've had the car for a year, put only 12,000 miles on it, and now your hoping to get 22-23k for it. correct me if i'm wrong, but you prob. paid like 28-30kk for it, in one year the value has already gone down 5-8k. that really is ridiculous. the driving experience is the most important thing. easy to read guages, more comfortable seats, these are very important things. i drove the 2002 recently, i know what your talking about (255 + 6 = ) but i'm looking from a practical standpoint. I got my max at 10,000+ off the original price because it was two years old and had 50,000 mi on it. I intend to keep this car until 2007. my advice to you russ is to keep your car until the 2003-2004 models come out, and then get a car that's been driven for 10,000-20,000 miles. maximas are made for high mileage, 20k mi goes by without a hiccup, but it does depreciate like any other vehicle. getting new cars every year or two is the easiest way in the world to pi$$ away money for no reason.

I personally would not get a Altima. I hate the interiors. The Max is nice, but I drove them also back to back, and the Max felt more solid in the turns than the Altima.

Agreed, main reason why I rather not get the new max. I know its a 6spd, but man, thats all the MAx has over mine. I will had the HID myself soon, so why even try? It will be 1 year old in March.

Interior is a big thing to me. I rather have a 6spd anyways I also only drove autos in both cars, and the Altima auto felt faster.

Get the 2k2 while you can still get some decent $$$ for your 2k trade in!!!!!

I think the 2k2 will be the fastest Maxima ever made since it is being redesigned again and will likely be way uglier and heavier and slower... So the 2k2 is the cream of the crop. Seats aren't a big deal. I am sure you can find someone who would rather have 2k2 seats then 2k-2k1... Other things are nothing! This time get the color you want more, if you don't like the black much.... I think you should go for it man

I think the 2K2 interior has been absolutely perfected. I thought the 2K2 leather looked almost as good as 5 series leather and definitely up to par with an Acura TL leather. The gated shift **** is also a huge improvement, so are the new short windshield/turn signal controls, Navigation or 6CD in dash, both windows auto down. In other words the 2K2 blows the 2K-2K1 out of the water. Also, after driving a 2K SE auto and a 2K2 SE Auto, the performance of the 2K SE is an absolute joke(I mean it felt as fast as my 3rd gen), the 2K2 meanwhile was a torque machine. As for the exterior, I like the new tails for the GLE/non existent GXE, however, on the SE I like the older tail lights better. I love the new GLE rims, think they look very classy. The new SE rims arent as nice looking, liked the center cap better. The headlights/fogs look better, front appearance is meaner, also HID is a nice touch. Standard side sills are nice too, auto tranny feels much smoother, cloth also looks a lot better.

If you can afford to trade it in go for it. The 2002's are really sweet.

Well I can tell you that the Acura Leather is mostly Vinyle. 75% of it is. The Maxima leather is all leather except the doors. Also the leather on the maxima 2k2 is more luxury and soft, not as supportive. The 2k1 and 2000 are more sportier leather, suportive.

But I bet we can adapt some things from the 2k2 to 2k1s, hid of course, rear lights, bumper, wheels, new blinker controls, maybe the window switches. heheheh

I liked the 02 seats more, if my memory is correct, the 02 was more supportive but softer. vs harder not so supportive 01 seats.

The seats are leather-surface, but the rest is vinyl. One thing I find with the 2002 is that the front part of the seat is too high/firm (part closest to the knees). I put the seats all the way down and my knees are quite higher than my rear. I prefer the seat to be more flat and to get that I have to raise the back part of the seat. With my long torso my head is very close to the roof.

As Emax and BBB pointed out, the contents are the same. Also, I was talking about the feel, look of the seats. I didnt see a problem with the support of the 2K2 seats. I've always felt that the leather design for the 2K-2K1 was lacking.

BTW, how much would the 2K2 HID kit run you?

Personally the 02 seats were harder and not supportive at all.

The back seat has no head room for us 6'5" people especially with having a sunroof. Very uncomfortable.

You are right, headroom isn't great. The TLS on paper has less room. It is surely better than the GSR my sister has. My head touch the roof, and shoulders were cramped etc.

BTW, I am 5'8", but about 90% body and 10% legs. With the roof I have to put the seats to the very bottom and if my hair is spikey I do touch the roof. Oh well, American cars offers more headroom but...
