Fuel filter?

Gotta replace my fuel filter this weekend.. its been over the designated time (believe its 30000 miles?) and its showin the need for replacement. My brother suggested getting a 300ZX fuel filter (I think he was talking about the Z32 fuel filter) b/c its larger and would allow for more fuel to flow through it... is there any true advantage to getting anything but the OEM-type filter? or should I just go to Bap/Geon / Adv Auto and get the stock fuel filter? Thx

Re: Fuel filter?

come on guys, someone has to know. I've flipped through the maxfaq and didn't see anything. Does anyone bother to change their fuel filters? just lemme know if you never used anything other than the "stock" fuel filter.

I've never replaced my fuel filter with a 300ZX one before, but I do believe that you can. I don't think the Z filter will make any difference because 1.)The fuel system is regulated electronically through the ECU and the fuel pressure regulator and 2.)No matter how large of a fuel filter you get, it still has to go through the same size hoses to get from the fuel tank and to the engine. If it were possible to add more fuel to your engine, you'd just end up making the engine run rich. I'd say the only time a Z fuel filter would be necessary is if you are running a turbo or nitrous with other fuel system, engine, and electronic upgrades.

Re: Fuel filter?

The Z32 fuel filter is part # FF651 at autozone. I liked using it because its was basically twice the width and ours is harder to get at. So the Z32 filter should last longer due to its larger area. Besides they are the same price anyway so might was well get more life.

i havent worked on much of this new technology stuff like on your maxima but i know there is a fuel pressure regulator and somehow the vacume in the intake controls the amount of fuel it needs. if your car is stock for instance doesnt have a turbo or anything extreme then a bigger fuel filter should'nt do much for it. you might but i doubt it gain 1/4 a horspower or something but nothing you would actually feel. i do beleive though if its bigger it would last longer. please write me if you put it on and it is against what i have thought to be true and correct me, i have alot to learn on fuel injection and this new technology.
