Grrrr. Went to roll the bugger up today and I heard the motor click but nothing. It's the passenger side so I tried the switch on the door but no luck, either up or down.

Sooooo, what are the common problems and solutions to my dead window? If you guys have any similar problems, what did this headache cost you?

Most likely its your window regulator. On the rail there is a plastic piece that holds the bottom of the glass. Cheapo thing breaks easy. Other thing is it could just be a rubber molding. Hafta get in there to find out. Regulators are like 30 bucks on ebay or scrap yard.

 

Cheapo thing. Good news! Not sure that it's the rubber molding given the fact that she was acting up a bit last night too but it seemed to slide up easily enough after a few attempts. I'll pull the door off sometime soon to have a look-see. Thanks for your input Fadvr.

Junk yard is out though as I live in the relative sticks so the chance of finding a 4th up here is slim to none.

Ebay I reckon I can dig on on by chance would you happen to know off the top of your head what it might be at dealership?

 

The thing about a dealership is that they may sell it w/ the motor which you probably dont need. Im not sure, i would call the dealership and find out as prices vary.

Another curiosity:

In my case, I'm not completely retarded, just a little so I'll bump it up to a five. I'll just have to take a look at it to see what's involved. I can take the door panel apart lickity splitzky so no worries there.

Interesting though. I went outside just to see if the window would roll up and it did. Does that change the diagnosis or is it still the regulator?

 

If your window roles up then its not your regulator. Most likely something is keeping the window from coming up, such as rubber molding. I would take the panel off and then role it up/down and see what you can find. Your window will not come up if its the regulator.

 

Well, I got her up but that's where's she staying because it doesn't seem to be responding again. There is a remote possibility that some dampener might be sticking to it or as you stated the rubber molding might be the culprit but I won't know till I take the panel off to take a gander. *****.

 

You should check electrical as well. It could be a loose connection, failing switch, bad contacts, etc.

Are you hearing it make any noise behind the door panel when it isn't working properly? If so, electrical most likely checks out fine. If not, that's where I'd start.

I'm almost sure the front and rear motors are the same.

 

Indeed, they can be used interchangeably.

 

I bet it is sticking to the molding or the door panel.It does not take much to hold a electric window from working,I would start by taking the door panel off and trying it.I had to play with mine and align it to get it to work.Good luck

 

I have an innovative solution for everyone's enjoyment to keep the window up until you can fix the problem... Get some suctions cups that hold those ornaments on sliding glass doors-like at your grandma's house. I know this doesn't solve the problem, but it holds the window up until you can get the part. Heck my friend in college had those on his car for years and only had to adjust them every couple of months! LOL, he was a Toyota Camry owner... Just my .02cents, sorry if I'm clogging the board!

 

The J30 guys just use coat hangers. Quick, cheap and easy; it's actually all 3.

 

if you press it in the down position and you hear the motor chances are it could be a regulator of simply a switch....switch is cheap!

 

Well at least you're making an attempt at properly post whoring. That's a plus, I guess.

 

so one back window of mine is currently held up by a coat hanger and the other with the mini suction cups...all that was done before I read this thread. I've worked on fixing the windows, but I'm pretty tired of messing with it for the moment. The first one broke when trying to roll it down and I heard some nice clicking/plastic breaking sounds. Took it apart to find the cable off the track and enough tension on it to prevent me from putting it back on. The other window just decided to fall down on its own and I haven't taken the time to look at it yet.
