Can someone tell me if the '98 Max has an analog or digital odometer like the 99?

I have a 98 max and if your talking about the odometer yes it is digital.

 

95-96 analog
97-99 digital

right?

 

I believe only 98 - 99's have digital.

 

I tried to get a '97 from a junkyard, and it was analog, much to my surprise. That's why I was wondering about the '98. Thanks for the replies.

 

97-99s look exactly the same on the outside.

Here are the internal differences;

98 + 99s have digital odo, as has been said
98 + 99s have the newer auto-climate control
Some 99s have the Gen 5 alarm system (chipped key)
Some 99s also need a Gen 5 FSTB rather then the Gen 4 one (not totaly certain of this one)

Lastly, 99s have the SELimiteds, especially the cool and distinct red ones

Mine is an SE-Limited with the chipped key. That is actually the only thing that has gone wrong with mine in 2 1/2 years - was searching for used cars at the Honda dealer for younger sis at the time - how embarassing!
Also, I found out the hard way that mine takes a Gen 4 FSTB after trying to put a Gen 5 on it - like the dealer told me it needed!

 

how can I tell which FSTB to get for my 99 Maxima?

 

Actually I have a Gen 5 FSTB that wouldn't work on mine. The bolt pattern is a little different for one thing. If I get a chance this afternoon, I will try to give you more specifics on how to tell which one you would need...

 

I've never hear of a 99 taking a 5th gen FSTB. The only problem you may encounter, as I did, is there is a small bracket on the driver side strut tower that needs to be cut in order to make the FSTB fit. Some 99 have the bracket and some don't. My 99 SE-Limited had the bracket. A quick chop with a hack saw and it's off. The FSTB fits perfectly.

 

Courtesy Nissan told me I would need a 5th gen FSTB for a '99 Max, but they were wrong, at least for mine. I measured, and the bolt pattern on the 5th gen is SLIGHTLY larger than mine (1/16").
