Car does not start anymore!

Whats good orgers?

I need some help guys

Here's the deal:
It all started tuesday, i go to start the car, crank it up like normal, cranks but fails to start. ok so i crank it longer and it starts.

- wednesday-friday: same issue, have to hold the key in longer than usual to start the car, but it always started

- Saturday: car wont start no more.
Car does not crank and it makes a rapid clicking sound from the dash, the dash lights flickers at the same time.

- Car still can turn on headlights, stereo etc

Is my starter dead?
what can i check?
did some searching and it might be starter relay? fuse? solenoid?

Im off on wednesday so ill work on this during the week
Im still a car noob so be easy on the terms hehe
any help is greatly appreciated,

thanks man

(edit: 98se auto if that helps)

It's your battery.

I had the exact same problem, just check the thread I started lol.

Here's your sollution.
A.) Clean your terminals, mine were corroded to holy hell, after I cleaned them my car fired right up.
B.) Buy a new battery. Enjoy maxing.

If you were stuck too far away to walk to autozone like I was, buy a can of coke, pour it on the terminals, then rinse with water, let it dry, they drive your car to autozone to buy either or both a terminal cleaner or the spray for battery terminals. Also buy those little fuzzy round things that go around the terminals, prevents corrosion, I used to have to clean my terminals every other week until I brought those.

Check the connections at both the starter and the battery, and have both of them tested as well.

Yup, it got so bad that the clicking became a warning, that it would later be completely dead, no interior lights nuffin.

Hey bro you got a link to the thread you started?

I did an advanced search with threads started by your username but only got 4 results not related to this issue...

did some more research and this guy seems to have the exact same issue:

I don´t think the problem is on the ignition switch because every single time I turn the key I hear the ignition relay. Everything else looks like to work fine (radio, fan, lights, ...) but the starter doesn´t want to kick. I am pretty sure the battery is fine and the A/Theft light also blinks as usual. The lights on the console are normal (airbag light goes off after some seconds, and the rest stays including the “engine check” light). I doubt it is the starter because I never had a problem with it before (always starts easily).

I had some problems with the grounding in the past but I do not think it is that, maybe I am wrong. I hope it is the inhibit relay but I do not know how to test it; with a multimeter maybe?, how?. Could it also be the fuel pump relay?, where is it located?.

Any ideas?, I am puzzled and I really need the car!. Thank you very much.
I read all the steps he did in the noob thread with posts from pmhor but he still wasn't able to get his issue fixed tho...

noob question: if its the battery thats dead, shouldn't all my lights/stereo be out also???

battery can still have juice and be bad. It could have enough volts to power up lights but not enough cranking amps to turn anything over.

*****RESOLVED*****

yeah,

it was the battery, connections were clean except some grease here and there.
Bought a new Motomaster battery for 110, returned the old one for 10 bucks lol,
tested the alternator, working fine.

Damn with the battery it fired right away! insta-crank, man what a good feeling!
Now onto next problems...

I'm getting a clicking sound too. I probably have to get a new battery, but its a pain to get it when the car won't start.
