Coilover install going wrong
Coilover install going wrong
Okay so I bought some k sport coilovers for my 2000 maxima.
I installed the fronts with no issues to begin with. Put the wheels on and was ready for a test drive. All of a sudden my steering wheel is going all over the place as I hit some small patches of slush or snow.. I figure I just need an alignment.. Well when Im driving my steering wheel doesnt stay in the middle. When I make a hard right and go back to going strait the steering wheel stays at about a 30 degree angle right.. Same when I take a left it sometimes then stays on the left 30 degrees..
Is this just alignment? Camber? Did I break something somehow not even knowing it? Ive pulled my suspension before and have never had an issue..
What are your thoughts?

Everything is snug tight, wheels included. Even has a FSTB on the top 3 and those are solid. Im not sure why its just acting weird. Not sure if it has to do with alignment or not or the slight camber on some winer tires..
Alignment would be first on my list, when you get this done tell them to check the camber bolts.
yea, i kinda noticed the same with my k-sports also, its nothing wrong, i bought mines new... i cant remember if pulled left or right... some bumbps i het will pull the wheel like that too... how low are you??? any pics?
The rear bolts are seized... I used PB blaster, Breaker bar, cheater bar, and a floor jack. Wound up breaking my craftsman socket. I got a new socket and tried my air impact. No go. Took it to my shop today and the part holding the nut still broke so the bolt and nut is spinning freely. OMG. I have to order new bolts and nuts ($20 from the stealership), as they are going to cut the bolts out. Well thats upsetting being that my rear struts will be trashed (only 70k on them) and they will be installing my rear CO's
. Something I would rather do, as its a easy job. But tomorrow im getting new rims

After the alignment and complete install with rims, I will put pics up
My steering wheel would do the same (not fully return to center after a turn)...but I just had a new rack put in & hadn't got an alignment. Got an alignment the next day where the only stuff out-of-spec was the front toe (off by a full degree on both wheels) and that cured the return-to-zero issue.
I don't know how coilovers work but if it applies, make sure the right one is on the right side. Also try turning extreme left/right while moving...hear any sounds?

Although the both have pros and cons
front tires slipping on a sloped surface will make the steering wheel seem crooked, its called understeering.
drive on a flat surface with good condition to test straightness
gravity is pulling the slipping wheels to the lower side, youre correcting the direction thus crooked steering wheel

Because I needed an alignment really bad anyways..
So I thought I would install my coilovers and then get an alignment..
Well then I decided to lower it more with new wheels too...
There is my reason.
well i've heard from people that the seals on shocks in the coilovers fail do to the cold weather plus why would you wanna ruin a new set of rims with all the salt they dump around here
