17" DR options that actually fit our cars are few and far between, but hoosier has two new sizes that work for us. 245-45-17 and 225-45-17.

These are serious tires, you would NOT want to drive them on the street (though they are "legal"), they are basically no tread except for two little lines cut in them, but for guys who have brakes that are too big to fit a 16 or 15" wheel over, they are a good option for a track-only tire.

Lol. So it's going to be just like street tires? You have to be joking. The way these tires act is very similar to slicks. If he doesn't get traction in first, which I bet he could with a good burnout and launch, he wil definitely get it in the top of first and through second. You think it would be the same with street tires or even street driveable dr's? Lol, not the same

JayPee has run 1.8 '60 foots on slightly smaller DRs than these, afaik. They won't be slicks, but you will get great traction. If I can get 2.0 '60 foots on 245/40/18 street tires, there's no way you won't do far better with sticky bias ply DRs with more sidewall.

I disagree entirely. My Nitto 555R DRs were way better than regular high performance street tires (Kumho MX and Hankook RS2s) when it comes to grip at the drag strip, and these are light years beyond Nitto DRs. Not to mention my car made quite a bit more power and torque than rrodriguez77, and my car is like 500lbs lighter. These will be very beneficial to him.

Drag radials do suck on manual transmission cars. Especially a FWD car.

Don't get me wrong though, they are for sure better than street tires.

Got them today!!! Oh yeah!!

Took some grinding on the calipers to make the 5zigens fit over the Cobra rotors..I was going to paint the calipers anyway. Going to do the lettering on the calipers a little bit differently. Maybe I will just leave them blank. I haven't decided yet.

Can't wait to run them...

Did you ask hoosier about what they recommend as far as how much heat to get into them, ideal pressure to run in them for your weight, etc?

They seemed to hook up well when I test drove them on the street. and this was on pavement and not the sticky drag strip.
Hoosier was closed during the weekend, so I couldn't get a hold of anyone. I will definitely follow up with them next week.

Looks badass!

Also, pressure varies depending on the setup. Seems like drag radials like to work around 12-16 psi.

Spoke to Hoosier this morning. They said they don't have a whole lot of info for FWD cars, but optimum air pressure for these tires is between 16 to 18 PSI based on the amount of whp I am putting out. He also said they do not require a whole lot of heating up, so no excessive burn outs.

Sounds like a good starting point for you then. DRs behave quite different on FWD than RWD cars, as opposed to slicks which act pretty much the same in my experience.

I agree....I was getting 2.0 60fts in my 19's and 17's... both street tires. There's no way you can't do any better. Just ordered mines today
