Tokico Illumina issue - HELP!?!?

Okay, for the past four months I have been trying to get my left from Illumina strut replaced under warranty. I have called Tokico so many times I cant even begin to explain how many people the have working there. They keep sending me to place after place and nobody is of any help. I originally bought a set of 4 from SCO a couple of years ago but they are long gone and I need to get this replaced. Its leaking oil. Tokico said they would warranty it, but I had to go through a distributor, which is fine, but I cant find anyone who will help me. On place anted over $300 for one strut! An no offense to anyone, but his Asian accent was so horrible I dont even think he understood what was going on. SO - is there any dealers on this forum I should talk to? There has to be somebody who sells to members here that can sell me a new strut and then have me ship them the one under warranty. PLEASE - if you know of anyone, post the info here. I cant tell you how much I would appreciate it!

-Matt

you might want to post your location. I know I can get much better than 300 for a new one, but being in Canada makes the price jump up for shipping etc...

You fill out the warranty card and return it? Or at least the online warranty/product registration form?

Still no one with any into? I filled out the card a long time ago and sent it off. Im fine there, I just need someone to agree to sell me a new strut and handle my warranty. I wish I could find someone local!

You could easily search for a local Authorized Tokico dealer and just ask them.

keep us posted, illuminas are very popular for our gen, it would be good to hear more success on the warranties.

Your warranty will be voided if dropped more than 1.75"

The warranty is void beyond a 1.5 drop, actually.

Warranty accepted after strut replaced (purchased new strut from optauto.com - they handled the warranty). Took about 2 months, but I got a full refund.

I recently did a replacement through Justin @ ImportCarPartsPlus. I had to ship the strut to him, he forwarded it to Tokico, Tokico sent the replacement back to him, then I had to pay for him to ship it to me. Absolutely ridiculous process.

yes i can see that, and especially because that means in theory to keep the car on the road you would need a new strut during this process anyway... and then you end up with 2 struts. unless that car could sit on jacks during that whole time.

Yea. Luckily my customer was replacing it with a full OEM suspension. It just took a while to get the replacement strut before he could sell the lowered set up. Kind of made things annoying when the customer was waiting for a $400-$500 payday, and it took 2 months to get it.

And frankly, I wasn't too happy or impressed with the service from ImportCarPartsPlus.

They shouldn't be noisy whatsoever. You need to replace other components.

Just call Henry at Optauto.com - I bought a new strut, installed it and sent the old one back. I spent all of $180 for the strut. Return shipping was paid for and the warranty went through no problem.

Sounds like you had some other issues....mine are smooth and quiet and have been installed for 4 yrs now.....My ride is lowered with the Infamous Progress SS and as I've been told be other ORGer's who have driven it...."Man this is like a Cadillac"....My wife drives the car mostly and when I drive it I only turn up the adjustment if I'm going to be tracking it.....or just out having a little fun! If your skills are like most of the folks on these org you probably installed something incorrectly or had other issues! I'm sold on the Iluminas/w Progress Sport Springs...

That translates to "effectively no warranty."

Did you have to prove you did a handstand while talking to them on the phone too?

When it happens, I'll take the refund and buy a competing product, thanks.

There is no better replacement for Tokico Illuminas. Even with warranty products, you still have to pay for the shipping to them. And in the end it WAS covered.
