Want the best MOD for Automagic 5-Speed Envy? Just see Don in Texas and his VB Mod!!!
Any one who owns an automatic maxima but wishes they had a 5-speed has got to get this Mod done. As soon as I heard about it, a year or so ago (I am relatively new to performance mods on my max) I knew I wanted it. Little did I know how much it would increase the performance and enjoyment of my driving experience. In normal, laid back driving mode, the shifts are quick and firm. If I drive, say more aggressive, then it is now only a quick shift, but feels like it slams into the next gear. Can you say polyurethane engine mounts, lol. Either way I drive, I don't feel that I could shift any faster with a 5-speed. It is that much quicker shifting than the factory VB. In fact, I almost would be willing to get into another automagic on my next maxima, assuming I was able to get the VB mod done.
There were a couple of funny things that happened during this experience. I am at war with my local post office, and refuse to support them in any way (due to their complete lack of concern when i had a valuable package lost for 3 weeks in the past). I chose to use Fed Ex, which cost more money, but was still worth it to me. So I am tracking the delviery to Don, and it should be at his house by 10:30 am, to be shipped back out to me the same day. I am tracking the package on line and at 5pm, it stills says out for delivery. I am freaking out. hoping that this does not delay my VB being returned beyond the weekend. Well, it turns out, the driver had a new truck, without the computer, so she could not update the status until the end of the day. She was nice enough to call me at home, let me know what was going on, and she even drove back by Don's house to double check he got it (he wasn't there when she left the package for him at 8:30 am). She called me back and told me that he got it that morning ang that mine was already on it's way back to me. So, needless to say, I flipped out over nothing.
The other funny thing that happened was during the cleaning of the VB before I shipped it to Don. my dad was cleaning it off. A spring came out and was laying on the rag when he finished it. He had no Idead where it came from on the VB, except that it came out while cleaning. Well, I included it with the VB when i sent it back to Don, and gave him a heads . He emailed me to let me know he knew where it went, and thet he identified it for me to easily install it when I got my VB back. This was a huge relief for me.
All around it was a great learning experience for me, and Don was great to deal with. One last note, You can't beat this price. One thing for those younger, less money coming in, maxima owners to think about.
