Has anyone ran their AFR at 13.5:1 all across without pinging?

Wondering if its even necessary on a DE-K N/A. Currently im running 12:1 passing 5800 just because someone told me when i was starting out tuning. I can definitely tell it pulls harder at 13.5:1 than 12:1 (in the higher RPM's).

Thoughts?

13.5 is a little high IMO. Tune for high 12s-13.2 AFR so the combustion temps stay cooler and reduce pinging. My car is running like 12.6 AFR currently.

what are you tuning with? if you can advance timing, you will likely find more power by advancing the timing and running more like 13.0:1 than running at 13.5:1

I've done 13.8-14.0 w/ my VQ35, no issues even in the summer (95 degrees)

actually running 13.2:1 from 4000rpm to 6600rpm. Before, it was at 11.0 or so. The car pulls harder than before for sure. tuned with AEM wideband and V-afc2.

VQ'ed, your saying it pulls better with 13.2 than 11 at the high end?

tuned with LC-1 and vafc2. Not the best, especially if street tuning.

One of the highest NA DE/MEVI'd dynos comes from 14.0. You have ti go dyno and see what works best for your set-up ... I thought this has been established?

As a general rule, we look for 12.5-14. See what works best, and also, rul of thumb for our engines = flat line typically works well.

Jime uses 12.5 IIRC and he's really fast/powerful.

But, in order to prove to yourself, see what's best for you.

I try to stick around 12.8-13.0. With the timing the same, I see no difference in power by leaning it out to 13.5. And I also see no difference in power by going as rich as 12.5.

I accidentally used the wrong map once and I made a pass down the 1/4 mile with 15.2:1 AFR and the timing around 26 degrees without any knocking registered at all. The car was about 3 tenths slower, but it was fine. This is with my naturally aspirated VQ35DE making 290whp.
