SLOW FLASHING AIRBAG LIGHT
SLOW FLASHING AIRBAG LIGHT
i have a 95 maxima. and the airbag light was flashing really fast. then i read on here how to reset it( open both doors hit the door switch 5 times and start the car) well i did that and all it did was slow the light down to about 5 seconds on then it will go out for 5 seconds and then back on. what should i do to get it to go out. is it a serious problem?
That doesn't exactly reset the light, it just changes from "User Mode" to "Diagnostic Mode". Though, from there the system should reset if there is no longer a malfunction. Here is what I posted in a similar thread.
What you are describing sounds like the second #1 above. Have you done anything recently that might have tripped the light? I had a problem getting my air bag light to go off after I replaced my clutch because I forgot to reconnect both air bags before the battery. What eventually solved it was putting the system in diagnostic mode, turning the key off, disconnecting the battery for a little while, then reconnecting it.

From the FSM:
There are four flash codes in "User Mode" upon turning the ignition on:
1. On for 7 seconds, then off - No malfunction detected.
2. On for .5 sec off for .5 sec, repeat - Malfunction detected.
3. On - Airbag deployed.
4. Off - Control Module or Warning Lamp shorted.
In "Diagnostic Mode" (after pressing the DDS 7 times in 5 seconds) the flash codes are:
1. Off for 2 seconds, On for 3 seconds, repeat - Intermittent problem has been detected in the past. (Light should reset after turning key off).
2. Off for 2 seconds, On for 3 seconds, Off for 2 seconds, X flashes, repeat - Malfunction indicated by value of X below:
2 - Driver's air bag module circuit is out of order.
7 - Diagnosis sensor is out of order.
8 - Front passenger air bag module circuit is out of order.

Then it's probably just an old code. Some combination of button pressing, key turning, and battery connecting should do the trick. Mine was on for almost two weeks before I got it to go away. At one point I called a local dealer to see if they could help. They said for $120 they could hook a computer up to the car and clear it. I told them it should reset by pressing the button and they told me they couldn't help with stories I heard on the internet.

OMG MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON!!!
Airbag Light Fix (revised)
IF YOUR AIRBAG LIGHT IS FLASHING WHILE YOU DRIVE 9 times out of 10 it is the passenger seat side air bag...the one that is inside of the seat...what you need to do is the following:
Open your door and first locate the button on pillar A....this little button is the drivers door switch and when the door is closed the button is pressed in making the car know that the door is actually closed....it is a small button with black rubber surrounding it. Once you locate it, turn your key to the ON position....DO NOT start the car...simply turn the power on so the engine light, battery and everything else is lit without engaging the ignition. Then with the key in the ON position press the drivers door switch at least 10 times within 10 seconds with your finger: in and out in and out fast......then once you have done that turn your key to the OFF position....when i did this I found it easy to turn the key half way between where you take it out and half way between ACC so nothing should be getting power...not even the radio but you should also not be able to pull the key out. Then close your door and with the key in that same position, between taking it out and ACC, start the car by turning it towards the ignition. This means don't take the key outta the ignition the whole time.
If you have a 99 9/10 it is the passenger SEAT airbag....the one that is actually in the seat and Nissan will try to tell you it is faulty but by doing this you will engage the system so it will work again. I know people that have had the seat air bag repaired and then the light has come on within a year. If it was the airbag that was in the dash I would say get it fixed but with it being a seat air bag even if it doesn't work the rest of the system will. Same thing happened to me and I got it diagnosed luckily for free at the dealership but then did the thing above and it hasn't come back on in over a year and a half. A lot of times they said it could be caused by a passenger having their feat under the seat where the air bag components are.
Print this out and GO DO IT NOW!!!! It works.....mine went on in March 2004 and I was told by Nissan I needed a new passenger side SEAT airbag....the side curtain on that is INSIDE the actual seat of your car if you have it. Nissan said it was VERY common and it is faulty.....amazingly they even had some on-hand....follow this how -to!

Allow me to sum up what the previous user said...
Move the Seat. Forward, Backward, Up Down. Than check it again.

WORKS!
This worked on my second try, I'll see how long it keeps the light off.
Just be sure when you put it in acc mode, that you turn the key to the point when all the lights on the cluster come on, not just to where the clock and radio work, one turn past that.

yeah sometimes it takes a few tries, but always works. FallenOne you can suck it buddy, moving a seat around isn't going to put the srs system into diagnostic mode to recheck the system and reset the light
kthx
kthx
But how on earth do you fix the problem?
MOVE THE FREAKEN SEAT AROUND. HOW DO I KNOW? OH IVE DONE IT.

Wow, You sir are a Moron. First off if you dont correct the goddamned problem its not going to drop the code so you can rid yourself of the goddamn trouble light. Im pretty sure we had already established the fact that it needed to be set into and out of diag mode.

so i'm bumping an old thread cause my airbag light in my 95 started flashing last friday and obviously these little tricks did'nt work. anyone else know what can cause the light to come on?? it flashes on for 3 seconds then off for 3, just came on randomly after car sat at work one day.
mine has been flashing for 2 years now, and i know exactly why, my friend put my passenger seat all the way back and down, stretched the wire underneath it probably.. havn't tried the reset method... but im positive he stretched the wire underneath the seat, the light came on 1-2 days after he did that. sucks..
