Hey guys, recently my car has been experiencing a rpm drop when my rpm is currently at roughly 600-700rpm area. For the most part, while i'm at a complete stop and have to accelerate again to get going.

The rpms drop to below 500 and and feels like it's about to stall then it gets moving with a surge.

Once the car is moving however, the problem seems to go away.

Now, it might be a coincidence, but this started to happen right about after when i turned on the A/C with the nice heat blast we got in NYC recently.

The problem still happens now with the A/C off...


This is on an 99' auto, had misfires on a cylinder before but that was due to bad ignition coils and that was changed out along with all spark plugs. This was maybe a year back now - but this rpm issue is new and never happened before.


Any ideas?

 

Have your alternator checked

 

Any surging while driving? Codes?

I wd say perform the big three cleaning. MAF,IAcv, and TB. See if that helps

 

And throw some chevron techron in the tank as well. see Sig

 

Clean the throttle body and IAC valve.

 

Interesting, never heard of a alternator causing power loss before aside from dash lights coming up then sudden death. But will check it out and I guess the belts while I'm at it, maybe something is seizing and dragging it at the start?...

No surging and no codes. Will try cleaning the parts out this weekend, thanks.

 

check your belts as well... Also, check for a Misfire. AKA pull coils one at a time. Than PM me when you need a new one

this was the issue for me a few weeks ago when my rpm wasn't stale under 4000

 

i have a similar problem. I own a 98 maxima 5spd MAF sensor has been changed but still chuggs sometimes when accelerating, annoying as hell! please help!

 

Was it a new MAF? Spray some MAF cleaner on it. That dont help, inspect and test coils per FSM. Check plugs too

 

Clean MAF,Check/Change Plugs, CHange Oil, Check Coils, Clean your Air Filter, Change your Fuel Filter, Dont Hijack Threads.

 

Okay, since my last reply, the car seems to be running fine again... BEFORE I even did anything...

However, my check engine light did come up - it was the O2 sensor indicating bank 2 sensor 2. Just went and changed it out, didn't want to chance my car stalling if that was the culprit.

Lets see what happens...
