Front Bose speaker popping sounds

Hey guys, as the title states, my passenger side Bose speaker is making a popping sound (woofer is torn). I want to replace it with Boston Acoustic Components. Crutchfield says that I need to replace all four Bose speakers if I'm replacing one of them. (I was planning to just replace front drivers and passengers side). Would everything go smooth if I replace only the front speakers? Or do I need to replace all 4 speakers. I have Pioneer headunit in right now.

Bose drivers always have funny impedances. If you could find an aftermarket driver to match the impedance of the Bose ones, the you could make it work with the stock Bose amplifiers, if those can even be removed without ruining them. Alternatively, you could remove the Bose amps in the front, and rewire your head unit to supply amplified signals to the aftermarket speakers. Remember that to use an aftermarket head unit with the Bose system, you need to reduce the strength of the amplified signal leaving your head unit to a level that won't overpower the inputs of the Bose amplifiers (or you can use your head unit's pre-outs if it is equipped with them). If you remove the Bose speakers and amps in the front, and bypass the level controller just for the front, you could feed you Boston Acoustics fronts with amplified signal from your head unit, while feeding the stock Bose amps in the rear with a reduced level signal that will not over power the amplifier inputs.

Find a junked car with premium sound system and grab the speaker. Problem solved. Or e-bay.

Bose sound great but do not integrate well with aftermarket. Depending on if the BOse are powered at each speaker or with an external amp under the car seat will dictate your options.

HOnestly IMO, rip all the BOSE out and replace all speakers with Aftermarket. Eventually the BOSE will fail. All speakers do. U might as well take the time now replace them all at the same time and save the headache of replacing individually.

That would be the easiest way to go, no doubt. Maybe checking the classified on this forum would be a good idea too.

thanks guys for the tips, I went to the local Junkyard today and didn't find the Bose speaker. I did a ghetto method to fix the problem. I opened up the door, took a look at the speaker and noticed if I held my finger behind the woofer the popping sound went away. Soo I got a bunch of tissue paper and shoved it behind the woofer (all around) and the popping sound went away! So yeah, kinda ghetto but it works for now. If I see a speaker cheap enough, I'll probably get it.

I did a custom setup, kept the bose rear deck speakers, replaced the front door speakers with some thing that doesnt bump as much because it would rattle the crap out of my doors and side mirrors. Installed some bmw midrange speakers in the rear doors and a sub in the ski pass. and finished it all off with an alpine Headunit. The sound is amazing!! (btw the bose in the rear deck is wired to preouts on the back of the headunit)

So I'm finally deciding to get rid of the Bose completely. Currently I have a Pioneer DEH-P6900UB head unit (it's pretty sweet for how old it is). I'm planning to get Either Alpine type R's , or Boston Acoustics, and run them off a JL 450/4 Amp. Also planning to get 2 12" JL W7's and run them off a JL 500/1 Amp. For the speakers, I would use the preouts of my head unit and wire them to the amp, then run speaker wire throughout my car to all 4 speakers. Is this all correct to full get rid of my Bose Stereo?

Sounds you have got a good plan to replace Bose speakers. Just one other thing, since you are getting two 12" subs, you are probably better off by getting a capacitor as well for the sub, you battery may not be able to handle all those drain so a capacitor acts as temporary power source that your amps can draw power from.

BOSE Premium speakers

I have a set of 4(2F 2Rear) premium amplified BOSE speakers that I removed from my 97 i30 parts cars if you or anyone else needs them. I'd let the whole set of 4 go for $40 bucks plus the actual shipping cost. I have the original head unit/CD player too for an additional $25. I bought the 97 i30 for a parts car for my 96 Maxima I'm almost done restoring that I owned since 99. It was my dads and it still only has 92K on it. It's been stored since 2003. I finally snagged it from my buddies garage in NY and got up the ambition to do a full restore. It's going to paint this week. I'll post pics when it's done. It's going to be pretty sweet. I wire wheeled and polished nearly every engine part and ported and polished the entire intake, plenum and throttle body 5mm and installed stainless headers, Y-pipe and catback. I tossed in a $450 Advanced Clutch Technologies stage 2 clutch pressure plate and throwout bearing and it has some serious ***** now. I'm waiting for my 8" touchscreen for the carputer and will have full touchscreen tuning/logging with the consult cable. If anyones interested in the speakers hit me up. I also have nearly all the other parts from the infinity including injectors, coils, MAF, ABS, Self dimming rearview Etc Etc. Any reasonable offers + shipping. I just want to help folks out and keep these classic parts out of the scrape yard and ripping down the road...
