Installing NWP spacers soon

I am installing NWP spacers soon. I'm also changing the spark plugs. Spark plugs I got is NGK Laser Platinum. Is there anything else I need to do while installing spacers?

Its pretty straight forward with the instruction. I did this a month ago and it went well. I use some RTV silicone gasket maker on the spacers. BTW, since you are changing your plugs, you should replace the rear valve cover to 6th gen valve cover.

Now when you say valve cover you meant valve cover gasket right?

Sure increase for the 5.5 gen... on their website you will find dynos of 5.5 and 4th gen... have yet to see proof of difference on a 5th gen!

This

The VC with gasket and PCV is about $50 from what I have seen. I'm due to replace the VC as well. From what i have been reading about it here unless your front cover has failed don't bother replacing it. Also, be sure to put dabs of silicone in the valleys between the Cam humps and the flat gasket surface.

The only other thing is make sure you get a torque wrench that can go as low as 7 ft-lbs. Likely you will need to get an inch-pound torque wrench.

Get some masking tape to cover up the intake runners, Duck tape leaves a pretty nasty resin that was a pain to get off. Trust me on that.

One last thing, clean your throttle body. It will help with the idle on your first start.

I just did this like 2 hrs ago. Pretty straight forward. Only real thing that was a pain was the bracket that's between the elbow and the firewall. You can get a ratchet in there but it's still a pain.

heres what i did 2 weeks ago:

put cattman headers, y-pipe, fast-cat, 3" catback exhaust and replaced all 4 motor and tranny mounts on my 2002 max. she was still idling a little rough, getting bad gas mileage and leaking a tad bit of oil in spark plug ports.so the next week i did all this:

-replaced my front + rear valve cover(comes with pcv valve) and gaskets with 6th gen(alooooot cheaper)
-replaced spark plugs with ngk iridiums
-replaced knock sensor
-repaced mass air flow sensor with a 2001 mass air flow(swapped resistors out...also alot cheaper. about $375 cheaper)
-cleaned lower + upper intake manifold + throttle body with intake cleaner

i cant even tell you how big of a difference it all made. it feels like a brand new car again. she idles perfect, throttle response is incredible again and my gas mileage went up to almost 21 mpg from a disgusting 16 mpg prior. i couldnt be happier

LOL... he may not know this... but he surely knows:
1. Diagnose and replace an alternator
2. Diagnose and put in new motor mounts
3. Diagnose and replace brakes...

plus many other things that are really needed to keep the car going

NWP spacers come in that realm where only those who know about it.... know about it.

One question do I really have to get the valve cover changed? My car runs really nice no rough idle or any hesitation.

It's just one of the things you should do. Otherwise you will be going back in there again to replace it.

..you dont have to,...its one of them situations where "ur better safe than sorry"... cuz im pretty sure that if its not leaking now and it starts to leak six months down the road, that your gonna be sorry you just didnt do it.ive been there before. thats why i did the knock sensor too. cuz in order to get at it you have to take off the upper + lower intake manifolds so i figured, hey if ill have all this stuff off for the spacer installation i might as well do that too..

yeah I know. lol, but if they do very little performance gains on a gen 4, a gen 5 ant gonna be that much more. At all to say the least, IF they were cheaper then yeah, I would say sweet, but you won't see any noticeable HP gains. Not to mention engine heat already makes the intake super hot. Better off putting the intake mani and UIM in the cabin.

Big difference in intakes. 4th Gen plastic, 5th Gen, (5.5), aluminum. That pretty much says it all when your talking about heat soak.

^ I thought 4th gens had an aluminum intake manifold, 5th gens had a plastic one, and 5.5 gens had an aluminum one...

There's a design flaw in the 5.5 gen rear VC (firewall side). After a number of years and/or miles, oil will seep around the seal on the middle coil pack tube. It will happen eventually.

The 2004 VC's are a direct fit, but a different design, likely different because of this very problem. They're also about 1/3 the cost of the 5.5 gen VC's. The current inventory supply of 5.5 gen VC's is also a slightly different design from the original, but like I said, it costs 3 times more than the 6th gen VC, so get the 6th gen VC.

The rear VC comes with the PCV valve. However, you need to purchase the gaskets separate.

Just do it, man. You'll kick yourself silly if you start blowing oil after the fact.

Don't bother with the front VC until it becomes a problem. It's very accessible, so there's no coincidence of opportunity here.

I feel like SoonerFan here but this was literally just covered and is still on the first page of the 5th gen forum:
http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...anifold-s.html

I just changed the Plugs this past week and I risked it by not buying the Valve Cover/ VC Gasket and I regret it because there was a nice little pool of oil waiting for me with the last sparkplug.

I ordered it today from Dave B (888-254-6060) the VC + Gasket come out to $63.35 including shipping.

Wish I was that smart.:/ I ordered just the gaskets and not the actual VC. Quick question, will the gaskets for the 5.5th gen VC work with the 04 VC? Sorry if it's a dumb question

If the 04 VC fits our cars that means it gasket should be the same.

Went to dealer today and check out the gasket for the 5.5 gen and 6 gen. 6 gen gasket is much more thicker and better quality built. Instead of me ordering through dave b I ordered it through my local dealer only 5 bucks higher and they had it in stock. Will be installing this weekend right after that will be taking my baby for dyno.
